I know this was brought up a couple of times, but couldn't find anything.

A mini freighter or even a revamp of the indys we already have, many even a t2 version.
I've noticed slot of contracts ranging from 20K-100K cargo space with a decent profit on them
Maken a new smaller freighter could be a nice stepping stone into the freighter line of ships.
Just kinda a thought ATM but something like this

20K-75K cargo
85-100 velocity
Shield-some were between 500-1000
Armor-2500 to 5000
Hull-2000 to 5000

Idk what the slot layout would be even.if there.is.one.

That's all I can get done on my phone I'll tenuto add more when I get home.

No.

Freighters are not hard to get into, just to afford.

If you want more space, get a hauler and fit it for max cargo, if you want more than that, get an orca if you want more than that, get a freighter.

IM at about max.Indy skills and I still got a month of training before a freighter. And even longer for the orca. yes they arnt cheap. And a Indy with cargos 2 and rigs is still badly enough to jail anything worth while.

So like I proposed this would be a stepping stone to freighters. Better then a Indy and faster to train then a orca or freight.

The "get an Orca" is your standard 5th grade answer. Grow up and actually think about your response.

The Orca is MINING ship that people have used as a hauler - just like we used to use Max Cargo Dreadnoughts, and Carriers to transport filled haulers.

The "basic" rebuttal is that a player should not have to train a whole set of unrelated skills (e.g. mining) just to fly a ship that allows for more carrying capacity (e.g. Orca).

Wait...

The Orca is a mining ship?

Really? Cause last I checked it couldn't fit mining lasers and it had a big ore hold for...wait for it....HAULING ORE.

So yea, its not a mining ship, its a hauler that happens to have gang links and bonuses for miners in fleet.

It also happens to be a good ship to use to move stuff around from place to place that is faster than a freighter.

Please explain how there is a big gap between the skills for a freighter and the skills maxed out for racial industrial. And don't say spaceship command 5, that should be a given that you should train early regardless.

There is no need for a mini freighter.

Also just to be clear, I DID say this in the previous thread that you linked:
Loius Woo in the other thread wrote:
I agree wholeheartedly that there IS a gap in capability to be addressed.

The ORCA is meant to be a mining hauler that gives mining bonuses. It is NOT meant to be a sub-cap freighter.

To be just right, the Light Freighter should do just a little bit less m3 in the same amount of time as a freighter, for example, if the Freighter can move 900,000m3 across 30 jumps in 40 min or so, then the Light freighter should be able to move 250,000m3 across 30 jumps in about 20 min or so. That way the freighter is still the clear choice if you are moving more than 500,000m3 but anything less than that, and the m3/hour ratios favor the Light Freighter.

I am not sure if the light freighter should be able to pick up things in space or not. If it could, it would make an almost OP addition to a mining fleet, but as I said, not convinced on way or another.

But I have since been convinced that I was wrong, and that there is no need for a mini freighter.

Just get a transport ship, you can get a decent amout of cargo from that!
If thats too small then you really do need a freighter, its logical progression. You want more cargo, you get something with more cargo.

Where'd you find your -10 implants? If you have Indy 5, you can fly a freighter in ~5d or so, all you need is Spaceship Command 5, Adv Spaceship Command 1, and Racial Freighter 1.

As people have said, either buy a Freighter or use the medium-sized hauler, the Orca. There are ships in the game to use already.

Actually it's more like this:
I'm in the business of moving dirt. I start with a little dump truck, and move my way up to bigger dump trucks, until I'm driving one of those ones that hogs both lanes at once: http://dumpstruck.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Dump-Truck1.jpg

My business moves along smoothly, but I just can't find a bigger truck! Finally, after years of searching to no avail, a German company called Krupp contacts me and tells me they want to sell me a Bagger 288: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6a/Bagger-garzweiler.jpg

After seeing the price tag on that, as well as the manpower and skill requirements just to operate it, I tell them it's a bit out of my price range (that's an understatement!)

So, I finally sketch up a blueprint of what my business needs to move dirt to the next level, and show it to a vehicle manufacturing company. It looks something like this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8f/Conventional_18-wheeler_truck_diagram.PNG

They laugh at me! "What possible use could you have for that?" they ask me, snickering impetuously. "If you want to move that amount of dirt," one of them pipes up, "then why don't you just get one of these to do it with?" http://www.aerospaceguide.net/spacepictures/shuttle_endeavour.jpg
"That'll carry about the same amount you're trying to carry! Why make a new vehicle when there's a perfectly good vehicle already at your disposal?"

"Or howabout one of these," another one chimed in, "which are smaller than that Bagger 288 you couldn't afford?" http://www.pcdesktopwallpaper.com/albums/wallpapers-ships/Oil-Tanker-002.jpg

"We're sorry, we just don't understand how you could possibly find use for that 18-wheeler contraption you came up with when you have so many other great options to choose from!"
