During my lifetime I'll take tens of millions of steps, he achieved more for humanity in one than I'm ever likely to do in all of mine combined.

I'm looking at the moon right now, I hope that you'll all join me in raising a glass and offering a thought/prayer to one of the greatest and most humble humans to walk the earth, and the first to go beyond.

I was 4 way back then .... but I live in the UK and TV wasn't quite so widespread back then.
So i probably slept through it Ugh

It is indeed saddening that the passion for exploration that fueled the hearts and minds of generations of not only americans but much of humanity has been subverted by budget cuts and public skepticism in an era of technological achievement that should be allowing us to venture out among the stars and colonize new worlds, but instead is used merely to send forth machines in our place. Here's hoping that someday that spirit of exploration may live again, and future generations of Neil Armstrongs may once more have the chance to make giant leaps for all mankind.

If anyone had a right to be a bitter vet, it was him.

Maybe those big null sec alliances should put aside their differences for a week, and go explore everywhere. Maybe CCP should put something there for them to find.

First we built bicycles, and those people went on to build aircraft, to then go on to build spaceships.
Now we strip our bicyclists of their victories, bankrupt the aeronautics industry, and mothball our only real fleet of spaceships.

I was 14 at the time.

I did a school project on the Saturn V rocket. I have always liked 'space' since then.

This interest got me to try, and stick with Eve.

I wanted to make a reference to that one time in that Mortal Engines book where they do a play about the moon landings a few thousands years and a few apocalypses in the future. But I couldn't find any details online and I don't have the book here.

Although Yuri was the first man in space he died in the 60's as a test pilot which was his actual career Sad

Nearly all astronauts, on both sides of the race, were test pilots. The requirements were a large number of flight hours and a special kind of crazy, both of which all test pilots had, so the vast majority were selected from that pool.
