With the recent changes to mining barges, I got interested in trying to short the mineral/ice market, but there wasn't any ready way to do it. Anyone doing this?

Best way I've come up with so far is a pair of item exchange contracts.

Contract 1) Broker exchanges the commodity with the speculator for collatoral plus the brokers fee.

Contract 2) Broker issues the speculator a contract to buy back the commodity for the collatoral.

I was wondering if there would be a way to do it in one with a courier contract, but I've never been on the other side of one, so IDK.

I believe that Block Ukx has (or perhaps had) something along those lines on the BSAC Mineral Reserve (BSACMR). Contact him for details.

Courier contracts wouldn't work, as once your break open the package you cannot complete the contract.

Your proposed method would work mechanically if the parties trust each other, but it provides no security against the parties violating the deal.

Depending on the kind of minerals you want to trade, I might have a reserve for your short.

Sadly the default EvE contract system does not let do what you want.

You have to provide collateral and possibly post a margin and have prices daily marked to market.
