Loot - to reprocess or not to reprocess?

I've been weighing in the pros and cons and honestly I'm just not sure - is it better to reprocess all the loot you get from PVE? Or to sell it individually?

I suggest you look in to this:

Having said that, it isn't the complete answer (though for a strict ISK perspective it's correct). If you plan to do something with the minerals then they may have higher marginal value than the loot from whence they came. If you plan to use any of the modules the opposite would be true.

Edit: also really depends on your trade skills. If you end up selling, you usually want to restrict to setting sell orders rather than fulfilling buy orders. Get enough loot types and this can be painful unless your skills are adequate.

What I do is reprocess anything that is of Meta 3 or lower (with some exceptions like certain turrets, missile launchers, etc). Being a part time industrial/miner character, I do have my Refining skills quite high, though.

But, to me, bottom line is that it's a lot easier to just sell the minerals in a trade hub instead of selling each item individually. Saves a lot of time and time = money as you know.

I've been meaning to publish a cheat sheet X gives you this when reprocessed, so you can more less see if it is better to throw it into the fire or sell it, but as a good quick way...if its below Meta 3, burn itTwisted

This.

I reprocess anything below meta 3, with a few exceptions... the ore is just easier to manage, whether you're selling it or using it.

With high refining and/or production skills, and assuming you're going to do something with the materials later - these replies are pretty much the best advice. And it certainly is easier to manage a few stacks of materials as opposed to trying to fill the market with things that'll take forever to sell (and may not be worth much anyway).

For me, it's a good source for things like Zydrine and Megacyte. I don't do any low-sec mining (yet) and unless I want to buy boat-loads of the more rare materials, then reprocessing is the way to go. Just watch for items that have unnaturally high value on the local market.

I'm a lazy player, I created a filter for meta items of >2, these I keep if I might use them or sell individually. Then I have a quick look through all the items for anything useful. Then the rest I grind.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Please Note: Any advice given comes with the caveat that nothing will be suitable for every situation.

How exactly did you do that? I dont know where such a function might be. For myself, I usualy reprocess everything below 100k estimated price.

With cargo open at station, look at the bottom of the index for the filters. I believe adding a new one is done by clicking on the plus sign - there's a filter in the dropdown list in the new filter window for meta level.

thank you, somehow I never looked at that stuf. But it doesnt work for the stuff in the stations cargo. Is it possible, to add these filters to that station cargo too?

Umm. Yeah, it should work any any inventory screen. Not sure what issue you're having applying filters in station.

Indeed, in the time it takes to figure all this out and work through the spreadsheets you could have done a dozen missions and made enough isk to cover the losses from the inefficiency of selling and refining arbitrarily.
