Anything else I should be doing ?

After burning out in SWTOR and about to leave once my subscription runs out end of month I decided to give EVE a try.

I created a character, read some quite helpful posts and started a training plan once I figured out how evemon works.

I really like the idea of pvp so decided to start with a rifter, learning all the basic certificates and Tech 2 projectiles having just finished that + ewar basics I am heading for minmatar cruisers and then into the hurricane which I really like the look of.
(Yes I have skilled up the support skills as well)
Bought a plex to fund myself, not really interested in the pve side of things, at the end of the month I am planning on actually playing and joining a corp called red vs blue, was told they would fit my needs and I would learn a lot about pvp in this game.

I only really play one mmo at a time so the ability to prepare my character and get his training up while I wind down my playing of SWTOR is Nice.

Having followed the evemon recommendations and fitting certs seems like a good idea.

So am I missing anything that I should be doing before the end of the month when I will start loosing lots of ships! Lol

Nope don't think so, you did a pretty good job of setting yourself up and you're already geared up to join RvB.

Stick to the smaller ships for a while and I guess just read up on some PVP tactics, creating and setting up safespots, how to avoid bubbles and such (if you ever find yourself in 0.0) learning about good fittings, cap management, aggression mechanics, and learning how to fly your ship (like doing spirals with a frigate to maintain decent angular).

Am I crazy for actually looking forward to pvp with risk and yes I plan to literally fly rifters and the new slasher upgrade to death :)

Don't rule out destroyers, the Thrasher is a fun PVP boat and cheap.

Only thing to add is to not wait. If you want to do something do it today. Don't wait for the next skill or module or whatever. You're gonna suck your first time whatever you do, so doing it when you have nothing to lose is easier.

I have no doubt of that I just only play one mmo at a time, one more week of swtor to use out my subscription and say goodbye to guild members. Then I will be in EVE, this time just allows me to set my character up with support skills etc.

Also remember when fitting those PvP ships, T2 modules are not always needed, especially in the beginning, the price of modules adds up really fast, you would be amazed how easy it is to turn that 500k isk rifter into a 10 million isk loss.

I was going to respond with the exact same thing.

To the OP: Slashers & Thrashers.

You'll have plenty of fun in RvB, just don't expect someone to sit down and teach you how to PVP. Ask to join "Noobfleet" and get active with them. You'll learn a lot if you pay attention to stuff as it happens, and there's plenty of people who'll be willing to fight "to hull" to give you a chance to try things out without losing a ship (if you want).

Was expecting to see a long list of stuff in answer to your question... Good to see you seem to have nailed it in the OP...

All I can add is to have fun, never turn down an opportunity to learn...
And don't get disheartened when you turn into a rapidly expanding particle cloud

Sort of. There are many different types of PVP. Red vs Blue will teach you some things common to all, but not the specifics of everything.

Swtor will be uninstalled on Sunday and my journey to the real dark side shall begin, thank you to all those offering advice on this thread, as far as theory goes even down to watching small group pvp on youtube.

Currently studying guides on sig radius/transversal and orbiting in relation to my current rifter fit, looking into the slasher and thrasher, it all sounds a lot of fun and explosions I am sure will follow even if my own ship at least I will hopefully learn something from the event.

I followed a basic fit on the battleclinic for my first rifter and changed a couple of things.
3*150mm Light Autocannon II
1* Small diminishing power system drain

x5 prototype engine enervator
Experimental 1mn afterburner
j5b phased prototype warp scrambler

Damage control II
small armor repairer II
200mm reinforced rolled tungsten

small polycarbon engine housing I
small auxilary thruster I
small capacitor control circuit I

Now my thoughts on this are as follows, I realise using a capacitor control circuit is not usual on a pvp ship but a lot of small group and even solo pvp happens in red versus blue from what I have read and this is what I am aiming for with this fit.

with the diminishing power system drain on a target this rifter is capacitor stable 25% with repair system active I know that is not really important on most and pvp ships are usually from what I have read cap unstable.

From my reading and looking at things afterburner means my ship has a sig of only 35m and a top speed of 1040.

Please note I have not actually flown this ship yet this is all theory and probably flawed and full of new person mistakes.

the reason that CCCs are awful on PVP ships does not change based on the size of the fight. CCCs are as bad for solo PVP as they are for fleet PVP.

Modules that give you a steady stream of cap are pretty much balanced around PVE...which is to say, very long engagements where the only concerns are tank, DPS, and cap. PVEers can pile on a bunch of cap mods to run their shield boosters or armor reppers. In PVP, if you try to pile on enough cap mods to make a difference in anything, you will gimp your ship beyond belief because half of your slots will be devoted to it.

Get a fitting program like EFT or Pyfa (I recommend the latter) and check the statistics. The CCC will give you only seconds more time on your repper, and most of the time the fight will be over before you run out of cap anyway. In a pinch, a Semiconductor Memory cell (+ cap amount) can be useful..Since PVP fights are short, base capacitor is far more important than capacitor recharge (though the SMC will also improve cap recharge, though not as much as a capacitor control circuit would).

in the case of the Rifter, however, you don't need it. You have already fit a Nosferatu, which will give you more than enough. The Nos is sort of an exception to the rule about cap recharge mods because it gives you a enough cap to actually be noticeable in a short fight...And sucking the opponent's cap dry is a nice perk

I agree I was using EFT but will try Pyfa, my eft stats say everything running - the capacitor control rig =45s with the capacitor control rig it is 25% cap stable.

My skills are very low at the moment but I do understand what you are saying.

You need to train up your cap skills then (Energy management, energy systems operation if I recall correctly). Regardless, you're still probably better off with a semiconductor memory cell.
