Move to Texas. If that happens there you've perfectly in your rights to pull out your side-arm and plant someone. Oh, and that kind of thing RARELY happens in places like Texas. Twisted

Glad you're safe and still have your laptop. Kudos.

If it gets stolen, EvE Online is the last of my problems.

Living in a country where guns are not at all widespread (Spain), I would have resisted too.

And having been, in the past, a...ehem...private security contractor (a pub bouncer), I cannot recommend THESE enough: expandable batons.

They are also illegal in here, just as mace sprays, but oh boy. I've stopped DOZENS of agressions (to me and others) merely by unfolding it.

They can be unfolded in a fraction of a second with a single whipping motion, and the sight of half a yard of steel popping out of nowhere DOES cool the blood of potential attackers.

Best thing: if you end up having to use it, it's much more probable that you DON'T hurt your attacker severely. If you defend yourself with a knife and end up stabbing the ****er, you'll be in deep crap yourself.

Also, a single blow to the side of a leg (police style) is all that it takes to stop 99% of brawlers out there. I know what I'm saying.

I can do the same with my man stick. Unfolded in a fraction of a second, ready for action...

On re-reading it still appears to me to be a blindingly simple concept, but i'll slow things down for you man.

○ Assholes try to mug me
○ Considered giving over bag since knives were out and pointed at me
○ Did not give over bag, was instead briefly distracted by the situational importance of EvE and various funny parallels.
○ Realised how strange it was that EvE should enter my mind in such a situation
○ Wrote simple post explaining this strange concept to other EvE online fans
○ Had to simplify post for Toko Too who has trouble reading evidently

Umm, and i dont remember posing any ideas. Was a thankyou for being such an important and interesting game / playergroup as to over-ride my fear of personal harm.

Plus 1 to both of you for your classic EvE-like contentless bump posts :D

I think the OP was extrmely lucky and personally I wouldnt resist over a laptop, if you or your family / friends are not in danger is it really worth risking your life over?

When criminals are carrying guns and knives anyone is capable of taking a life and a life for some junk that can be replaced doesnt seem like a worthy trade.

And no with some scuffle and heated exchange i managed to extend the situation a couple minutes or so untill they decided it was getting a little too public and got back in the car. After that they drove a few blocks further round the corner and pulled up again to wait for me further on, i saw them in the car as my friend gave me a lift past. I'm not a particularly big guy, but i don't think i look much like an easy target or anything Roll

You're an idiot, an extremely lucky one, but still an idiot.

As they had a car, all one of them had to do was lamp you in the face or stab you in the gut, grab the bag, and get sped away in the car sharpish.

Hell, they could have just tried grabbing the bag off you.

Also, drove a few 'blocks'. There's only two towns in the UK that are set up with the block system. I feel sorry for you if you live in Milton Keynes and can then fully understand why you wouldn't want to give up your escape from reality.

Bought a funny "non-harm" self defence weapon (i know nice concept there my government) for my ex girlfriend which consisted of a can of blue foam that empties entirely in 3 seconds into the assailants face when you pull the trigger. This temporarily blinds the attacker (just blue foam not irritant) and dyes their skin neon blue for 4 days. Its a sorry turn of events when self defence weapons are reduced to mere playthings What?

Wow. Your self defense options are limited to silly string? Jeeze.

We don't even have that in Australia. On top of that, if you hurt someone that is trying to rob you, they can legitimately have you charged.

It's no wonder so many criminals simply vanish from the face of the earth Lol

He's not the only one you helped with this re-construction. Your original attempt at telling the story was not as clear as you think it was. Maybe you are still under the affects of the adrenaline form the attempted ganking.

Regardless - I'm glad you made it out and EVE helped you.

sound advice m8, however the op was confronted by a toe-rag with a knife not the taliban with ak47's. I would of resisted and took my chances aswell.
