So I'm doing some lvl4 missions on my laptop, I optimized the game for quality in the options and when I'm doing missions I get around 20-30 fps with an entire room shooting me, and around 40ish fps when theres a medium size of enemies.

Everywhere else I'm getting a constant 60 fps.

My laptop isn't weak or anything, I run games that are much more graphically intensive than EvE on it with no problems at all.

Here are the specs....

Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM 2.0ghz (turbo boost to 2.9ghz)
16gigs of RAM
GTX 485m
Two harddrives in RAID 0.

What gives? This computer shouldn't be having problems with EvE online, it can run monsters like Arma 2, BF3, crysis no problem.

Is there some setting that I should turn down in my options? Is there something that missions simply don't like that I can change? Thanks.

Try optimizing for performance.
Most of the time you will play zoomed out so, image quality isn't worth much.

But yes, you are right.
I have the same problem on my rMBP in rooms with full aggro or in sites with clouds.

Well that is silly... Why does the game lag so much when there are some lasers flying around..

So it isn't possible to do level4s on high quality without having terrible performance?

Is there a spesific video setting I can lower?

Remember, network connection speed can appear as lag, and a hard-wired connection is always better than wireless. I run wireless on my work connection here and see noticeable lag and delays, whereas at home on a faster connection and a wired ethernet network the same machine with same client runs flawlessly.

For EvE..... Does the network speed has an effect on how much FPS a client renders? Because I am using a crummy internet the moment... But I'm having FPS drops...

Can you give me some specifics on which missions/sites in particular? I can take a look at them

It's probably the large particle systems for dust clouds causing it.

If you're using the in game FPS checker remember that if your "Present Interval" is at "Interval one" you always have a cap of 60 FPS.

Can tell you right now.

Enemies Abound 2/5, huge ass gas cloud in the second pocket, lags my laptop astronomically when I played on it, I had to zoom out completely to avoid it.

I play on a desktop nowadays, but I specifically remember that mission for the lagginess of that pocket. Similar missions with large gas clouds covering the entire pocket (or close to it) cause similar amounts of lag. Any way to fix it?

Anything with those cloud particles slows down even my new computer which I just bought (not the most highend rig ever but it eats any game out right now for breakfast - GTX 560Ti, i5 2450, 8GB RAM, etc)... I guess they might have to go till they are optimized since they do more harm than good.

some gas coulds are fine and dont give me any drop in fps but others just plain suck

In case any of this random information is applicable:

i5 3470K
GTX 580
16GB 2133 RAM
Old Spindle HDD

I run with graphics turned all the way up, anti-aliasing at max, etc. Screen resolution is 1 screen at 1920x1080 and the other at 1280x1024.

I see regular drops to around ~50 FPS when zoomed in on mission clouds (no noticeable effect in incursions), occasionally drops as low as ~40, and can drop to ~30 when I have two clients rendering clouds on each screen. It's never particularly noticeable and my numbers are inexact (I can do some testing if necessary). 3 and 4 clients run fine too, but I start to get strange bugs (lens flares not loading or alternatively completely filling the screen, nearly-constant warp tunnels in the wrong direction, and extreme lag (a few FPS) when I warp in on a warp disruption bubble, am still in warp, and have a sensor booster or tracking computer online (run into this final problem sometimes with only 1 or 2 clients running). Hope this helps.

Overall I don't care, I barely notice a difference usually and EVE is not based around fast-twitch gameplay.

It happened to me once when alot of enemies were shooting me..

But I'm also running a mission right now called "Gone Berserk" which only has like 6 ships on the field at once... but when I look at the massive station wreck and gas clouds in the middle of the mission.. My FPS drops to 20-30. Normally everything else is capped at 60.

Thanks.

EDIT: I'm also doing recon part 1... and there is another massive gas cloud that is KILLING fps :(

I think all the gas clouds make the game lag.

Deadspace clouds not only cause lag even on serious hardware when multiboxing, but they are also way too bright.

You shouldn't generalize based on your bad wireless link. I've been playing games over a wireless connection for years (landlord didn't really like the idea of me drilling holes to pull cable so I'm using a wireless bridge) without any issues.

The probable cause for your wireless issues is your wireless router/AP sucking, your wireless NIC in your laptop sucking (pretty likely) or your router/AP and your wireless NIC not liking eachother. Or just the distance/walls between your machine and the wireless AP being too big. Also if you're in a busy area try changing the band used by your wireless to a less busy one, don't just use the same one the entire city is on because it happens to be the default for your country (also a very likely cause for issues with wireless connections).

Hell, I stream music (from my NAS), run Mumble and have multiple EVE clients running this way without any noticeable latency and I barely have any disconnects at all, let alone any I can blame the wireless for.

Also network latency and FPS issues are easy to discern from each other, the former makes the game unresponsive, the latter makes it choppy.

This ... Even on some good hardware like a 560 TI and i5 , my computer starts overheating when ratting a in some dead space pockets .
