Explored WP marketplace and seems there are not much EvE applications, and which are there seems to be quite worthless.
So I'm thinking to write my own, but what to know first - is there a demand (not in terms of money - it will be free if I do that)? Do some considerable amount of EvE players use Windows Phone and want to see an useful EvE app for it?

I doubt it as Windows phones are basically dead. Android or iphone

The old Windows Mobile was crap, Windows Phone 7.5 is pretty good. I had a chance to test a Nokia Lumia 800 the other day and was pretty surprised how sleek and smooth the UI is. would trade my Optimus 3d in a heartbeat for one.

I honestly was like you at first: We have android and iOS, what do we need Windows phone for. But you should try out one again, no comparison to the old windows mobile crap.

So yes, my next mobile might very well be a Windows Phone, and then I would need an Android Aura replacement

PS: Plus you get alot of support as an Windows Phone App Dev atm, they need to get more poeple to make apps so they give out alot of incentives for people to do so

I,ve got a HTC HD7 upgraded to win7.5, great phone by the way. I have evemon7 on it which isn't that bad.

But all it shows you are your skills, no assets, no market orders etc. And it's quite buggy (crashes for me 50% of the time I tried to use it), plus very rare updates.

I have an iProduct, but if you have a windows phone and there is no one else out there with a product you should definitively build one. If you make a great product I might migrate to it for your product.

Great products make a platform these days, hardware is pretty much the same. More diversity, choice is always better. So go ahead!

Yes, they use Windows Phone (don't be confused with old WIndows Mobile). For example, I use and like my Nokia Lumia 800 (and don't like any Android phone, personal preference).

So the platform isn't total irredeemable crap anymore?

No, it's definetly not a crap anymore. Platform is fine and many people like it (some people don't as with everything). But there are less apps then, say, on iPhone (since Windows Phone is quite young). I have all apps I need, except the one for EvE, hence the topic.

I have the same phone, with the Deepshining custom rom. I love the phone, but it does not have the market saturation that iOS or Droid have, and as such, I will be upgrading to an iPhone 5 when its out as my contract will be up by then.

Problem for developers with win phone is you are locked down to microsofts frameworks which are a lot more limited than the other smart phones, no direct port access, no native code, etc.

Native code will be available soon. It's important to port applications from other platforms, but not so important if you develop from scratch for Windows Phone. And I can say, compared with Android development (had some experience), .NET is pure heaven from developer's perspective.

Got Lumia 800 myself, sleek, smooth and customizable UI makes iOS and Android feel clumsy and outdated.

First thing I checked on the marketplace was EVE apps, which followed by the immediate disappointment after finding out about the lack of them.

@OP: If ur up for it I'd gladly beta test it...

I'd say Windows 7.5 (and even more so with Win8) has alot of potential which is shadowed by the fan community of iOS and Android.

Native code will be available on win phone 8, which will need new hardware, ms have said current win phone 7's won't run 8.

Also, with android and iOS, my company always develop in c++ so that we can write a single app and deploy to both.

Sure I'll send you an invitation to first private beta test. What also can be helpful, if you can provide me an api key for some of your accounts. For example, I have just 200 assets on my character, and they display fine on the phone, but I'm not sure how fast it will be for character with thousands of assets. Also, I don't have research agents, do not participate in FW, have no records in my Kill Log etc. All this limits the set of EvE API I can test with my account.

The Windows Phone marketplace is steadily getting better with new apps from big players appearing all the time.

I've been using it for a few years now and it's a really good mobile OS. The hardware's great, the OS is great, it just needs more great apps so consider this a 'yes' vote! Big smile

The more you can incorporate the Metro style into the app, the sexier it will be too. Have a look at Cocktail Flow if you haven't - it's a really good example of a WP7 app done right.
