Game needs an overhaul. The training system is agitating too.

So at first I thought the the training system was cool. After playing for a week and not being able to fly a ship until four days from now I am actually pretty irritated that the "learning skills" were taken out two years ago. I talked to a few friends online and off, and the number one turn offs to EVE?

I hardly see any players with the cool ships, and few new people seem willing to want to wait like... say 60-188 days of training purely for one ship. It just sounds like a way to keep players paying each month, and that it the way they will see it. Would also be nice if ALT characters could train at the same time as the main characters, considering they are supposed to be different people after all. Its not bad to have the training, but it is FAR too long to wait without the old boosters system that was taken out of the game.. In this day and age of gaming I imlpore you guys to change that. I really like this game, and think it can get a larger player base again with over hyped trailers and a change to the system and maybe a graphics overhaul... you could even call a new expansion Eve two or something to get more players.. Just a thought, because I am thinking that by the time I can get a Titan, this game will have too few players, and I will be gone.

I just want eve to stay around, and I just do not think it will if some improvements are made. Other than that it is a wonderful and innovative game.

You didn't experience the Learning skills. Don't talk about them like they were good.

If you had the learning skills to do, add a month to your time to get into that ship (whatever it may be).

Also, go to a trade hub and you will see the "cool" ships. Other than Caps, but they aren't allowed in HS (with a few exceptions).

Almost 10 years on this old system. Too late to change it now without writing a completely new game that would not sell as well and would fail in a few months.

Edit: alt characters can train at the same time, get a second account.
If referring on the same account, name an MMO that lets you skill up more than one character at a time.

Half the reason Eve has the high rate of player retention that has kept it afloat for ten years is due to the skill system.

It is a great way to make players feel "invested" in the game, and an excellent hook that makes players play longer and spread their enjoyment of the game out.

As someone who personally has reached the point where between all my characters I can now fly all the ships I want to perfectly, I can assure you this is the most boring the game has ever been.

Also, learning skills really wouldn't help you.

This skill system actually keeps EVE more balanced. It means the only way somebody is ahead of you is by being active for longer.

unlike leveling systems where someone who plays all day and lives off their trust fund will always be ahead.

EVE is like swimming on a beach in shark infested waters,  There is however a catch...  The EVE Beach you also have to wonder which fellow swimmer will try and eat you before the sharks.

Wait, I'm confused. You get into the cool ships in EVE first. It's the lame, slow, fat ships that take forever to train for.

Also, @idea of graphics overhaul: EVE's graphics have been overhauled constantly throughout it's lifetime, CCP is in the middle of a graphics overhaul right now, and it's already one of the prettiest looking MMOs out there.

If the things you are saying were true no one would play eve.

  - remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not  "afk" cloaking -

So what do you want? Write it like this:

[wall of text]

1. Make training faster
2. Make alts trainable

1. There is no "noob" ships in eve except of 4 noobships :) So it's ok for players to try more t1 ships. they're alredy almost didn't know about frigates. And for me and many others it's not a problem to train anything we want - we choose, plan, and invest to get what we want. Why you are think thay in your time training to the titan should be a lot faster? Because you're the same lazy slacker like most of the people?

2. They was trainable, but it was stopped. The only reason why they're still there is whiners with trained alts.

Learning skills was fine, except for lazy noobs.

in 2007 i've thought it's a sci-fi simulator, not an "e-sports" game. I'm not a teenager, how would i like it much?

This. Battleships are nice and powerful, but flying swarms of frigates on a roam is pure fun.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

It was so painful back when we had learning skills. It's much better these days. 2-3 weeks and you can have a very effective frigate(combat or ecm) or dessy pilot if you plan it right.

I suspect the big training times to get into capitals and highly specialized ship are so beginners can't start playing and pay to win on day 2 by buying and flying a titan fleet.

But the skills shouldn't end up with stupid multipliers like 8x. When a skill takes 20/30days - yeah CCP are just milking money from us all with that stuff. I would also like some adjustment of the higher training time multiplied skills.

The changes eventually coming to skills will make it worse for beginners (wont bother older players). You will have to train racial BC and Dessy skills, undoing every bit of the forward progress made when they removed the learning skills.
Dunno why but CCP like to fix something and then re-break it without considering why they fixed it in the 1st place.

With the introduction of remapping, training speeds increased. With the removal of learning skills, the majority saw an decrease in training times. (Those that had 5/5 learning skills and +5 implants, actually lost 79sp/h)

I did have some reservations with the learning skill removal, but I saw the far reaching benefits to the game also. As it stands now, people train far faster. The system works well and rewards dedication, but without the grind.

Ok, some people here are significantly misinformed.

1) Automatic training does slow down progression BUT YOU GET TO HAVE A LIFE. There read the bold text multiple times so your brain eventually understands this. You can not imagine anything but grinding. Bravo. I actually throw in long skills while on vacation or really busy at work. In every other MMO I would be kicked out of the nerd-herd that are the guilds.

2) Bigger is not better. Eve is the century old penis joke: it is not the size of the ship that matters but the skills you have.
Meaning a frigate, let us assume T2, can have lots of more fun than battleships. I myself love stealthbombers, for they are small, maneuverable, and when they explode my wallet is only pinched.
My corp does semi regular low sec roams with everyone that wants to, including new low skilled players, using only frigates and cruisers. So free roaming, some potential PvP and we are happy.

3) You are a bad troll. Find a more unique 'problem' to complain about. Such as why there are no Zero G Jugs magazines in Eve.

Thanks for all the responses, but this game is really gotten boring and me and my fiance are quitting. It almost feels like a scam rather than a game...

Most of the "cool" ships you are likely referring to are more highly specialized than their t1 or "less cool" counterparts. So they aren't flown as much. Especialy in highsec.

EDIT: Also I'll try to help you out here and tell you NOT to go for a titan. You won't be able to do anything with it, everyone is going to try to kill it. And it will either lock up your character or require you to babysit a starbase for the rest of your life. (this is by design, the cost of their enormous power is they are deliberatly horribly akward to maintain)

it takes like... what 2 months to get into a decent skilled drake? which is one of the most flown ships in the game for PVE AND PVP???? go play wow, hit max level in 3 weeks raid for 3 weeks then quit because there is nothing more to do.
