I have noticed that if i don't fly my ship in certain ways ( approaching target or aligning to celestial object and getting distance ) my Hybrid guns do little or no damge.

My question is ...is it the guns or my skills.

Also any tips you want to give i'll listen too

Both? all three?

Rails or blasters?

Rails have low tracking to start with. If you are trying to hit frigates with large rails eh you'll need distance like you say.

Blasters have short range, you'll need to be close to inflict maximum damage.

Or do you mean you are hitting but not for much?

Skills can increase damage by a ton. Fittings can increase your damage by a ton.

Post a fit and your skills and we can help you better.

The trade-offs to damage with hybrids is the poor tracking/range. Try missiles.

Fit autocannons. Hybrids have never worked. Some people will tell you different, cause some people like easy kills.

Nice link, it also explains why if i manually fly ahead of npc target ship i get better results - lowering the transversal velocity that way.

The ship i was using had large Hybrids, drone rigs and modules..bottom line was guns won't hit close.

It seems to me without an afterburner and being able to get distance the only answer is to be patient while the drones kill npc - because my big guns aren't going to hit. Or swap guns out for cruiser guns and at least help the drones.

If you're running missions or complexes in a battleship, to be able to hit things with larger guns you can do a couple things, first and foremost, shoot the little stuff well before it gets in rage, they will always burn straight at you so their transversal should be lower. Second, if you have a slot or two you can spare, throw in a tracking computer (mid slot) or tracking enhancer (low slot), both can give you better range and of course tracking.

When I run missions or complexes in a large ship I almost always take out the small stuff first while they are at range, if they get under my guns then the small drones come out and finish them off. Most frigates and even some cruisers will pop in one or two volleys.

Train for something other than Gallente and hybrid weapons. Never look back knowing the worst race ships and weapon system in the game is now behind you.

And forever cry that you didn't take the time to train for the Vindicator, a ship that delivers scorching dps with hybrids, a solid tank and is able to fit several tracking mods that make OP's growing pains seem a very distant nuisance..

dafuq? Rails have fantastic range and medium tracking while blasters have fantastic tracking and short range.

PvE? Use missiles.

PvP? I use hybrids and projectiles. But damage and such is dependant on skills and fits.
