Sony probably wants to maintain their exclusive platform for a while to drive console sales. After a while it makes perfect sense to release a PC client.

Opens up a lot more marketing potential considering all Eve players are PC users. Lost count of how many times I've heard, "Dust looks cool but I'm not going to buy a PS3 to play it."

I don't have a huge interest in Dust myself, but if going to PC would make CCP more money I am all for it. I just hope they don't end up focusing all their effort on DUST and WOD and forgetting about EVE lolCry

I don't read Chinese, anybody willing to translate?

I don't think anyone will be surprised if CCP expands their market for DUST onto the PC platform after it's initial offering. As a game design it would seem to be perfect as a fully cross platform game... although it will likely never make it onto the Xbox.

The intent isn't to get you to buy a PS3 to play dust, it was CCP's intent to break into console development.

It is a fact that more people play console games than pc games by a huge margin. CCP told everyone straight up that dust was made as a console exclusive game because they wanted to break into console game development, and to bring console gamers into the EVE universe.

Most people do not JUST own a console or JUST own a pc. Most people have both. By introducing EVE into a NEW market they are expanding the potential player base for EVE itself. People who only play pc games have more than likely heard about EVE; on the other hand, there are millions of console gamers with a computer in there homes capable of running EVE that have never heard of EVE.

If you sell a product you want to expose that product to as many people as are not aware of that product, you don't keep pushing it on people who are already aware of it but aren't that interested.

Heh. I'd probably give Dust for Windows a try. Console games can rot in hell for all I care.

From what I can tell, that link has nothing to do with DUST514 coming to the PC at all. They are talking about the link between EVE and DUST514 which should be going in to testing sometime soon.

That'd make sense... we'll probably see it on Sisi ourselves relatively soon.

Don't kid yourself. Publishers like Sony care a lot about selling consoles. They make platform exclusive deals with developers like CCP for this very purpose.

Being a console developer obviously has advantages with accessibility. PC market for shooters is still significant, though. A smart developer tries to connect as many platforms as possible.

Regardless, DUST will succeed or fail based on how the market responds to the F2P features. Essentially they need to ensure a solid conversion rate from free players into paying customers. That's the bottom line and it doesn't really matter what platforms are available.

I'd prefer they didn't release it on PC for thematic reasons.

I kind of like the whole separation and two distinct gaming worlds interacting with each other. The relationship between PC and PS3.

If they add this it's going to be almost completely populated by EVE alts who need to do something while they're AFK mining.

It will be anyways.

Several of my IRL friends are dust bunnies and also AFK miners with their PS3 right next to their pcs.

DUST risks making structure grinds a little more interesting. Respawn DUST clone... press F1 in EVE.
