We're opening 0.0 Axis Fleet to help out the 98% of players who come to us who don't want to be spies.

We a family/fleet/four ring circus. We've got players in the three areas of the game: spy v spy, industrial, pvp. We teach all three areas of the game. We are neutral as far as the Great Alliances and their tectonic shifts go.

We are a network of experienced and inexperienced players.

We are also more than happy to train trainers. The blind can and do lead the blind. Look around you in Real Life.

YOU: Love EVE. And want to share that love with other players and make New Eden a better "place."

YOU: Know you don't have a problem. You can stop playing EVE anytime. Its just that you choose to spend so much time playing EVE that your "friends' (who are jealous of your happiness) think that you are playing "too much EVE." (And, yes, I laughed the first time I heard that phrase too.)

YOU: Are patient with drooling idiots. (Especially drooling idiots.)

YOU: Are ruthless with the pretty ones. (Especially the pretty ones.)

YOU: Are willing and able to talk to other players. If you do not possess both the technology and willingness to get into our TS server, contacting me is probably a waste of your doubtless valuable time.

Contact me ingame if you are interested. So much the better if you humor me by looking at our "New Players Very First Steps" on our website.

Non EVE players (I still know a few) ask me what I do when I play this computer game. I tell them I'm a teacher. They usually say something about not playing against the other players. Well, there's a thrill that can't be faked when pitting your skills against another player, to be sure.

If only. If only any of you were as dangerous to me as I am to myself. I think that would be something of a relief wouldn't it?

To all you new players who are making this so much fun: thanks for the leap of faith. Thanks for asking all those "dumb" questions that keep us on our toes. (Yeah, like we always have an answer, even a "dumb" one right?

Two days ago I was listening to some new players in Teamspeak.

"You know, " said one, "I heard so much about how hard this game is to play--that learning curve? But I feel like I blew that off by getting into Teamspeak."

More in that vein. All I can say is that I wish I'da thought of that.

We've got a really good thing going here. I'm having the time of my life. There's enough going on to keep everyone in our family/fleet/four ring circus busy.

* Daily Ops; PvP, Mining, Mission Running
* Hi sec to Nullsec
* Mix of very experienced to very new players.
* Everyone is respected for the game they came to play.
* We actively pursue all three aspects of EVE online: military, economic, spy v spy.
* We train new players and like doing it.
* Experienced players do not have to be trainers.
* TWO RULES: Honor among thieves. Everyone plays EVE. (No inactive members.)
* Teamspeak 3 Server. Required for all PvP and advanced industrial.
* Currently in Hi sec.
* The most awe inspiring Secret Evil Plan in all New Eden.

Hi everyone. Well its just about Back To School isn't it?

I just passed out the old fashioned copying books like the grade schoolers use (here in America at any rate). One each with a pen (no throwaways) to my RL friends.

A reminder that we're all in school all the time.

And a concession to modern sensibilities: the copy books I bought were not just black and white but also purple green and red and white. Surely its a world gone mad?

All this being a long winded way of saying welcome to all you new players.

All you new folks: thanks for keeping it fun! As I like to point out our happy family is one of the few places in all New Eden where being a new player is seen as an advantage.

The blind lead the blind and somehow the dumb manage to tell the deaf how to give the demented the instructions to maintain a nodding acquaintanceship with their sanity.

I am well and truly grateful to have the luxury of an unrepentant addiction to EVE. Come on. Let's talk.

SEVENTH METAGAMING EXERCISE: Concentration. Effective spies operate in states of intellectual and emotional uncertainty that would normally be crippling. One of the only actual defenses against this is concentrating on what you are doing at the moment. Concentration, as opposed to say, bitching and whining, is in itself an adaptive habit and it serves as an excellent distraction. You can get into the habit of encouraging a heightened state of concentration as soon as you log on, for example.

SIXTH VERBAL EXERCISE: Practice getting information from your conversational partner while giving as little as possible in return. Note: this is the exact opposite of our usual pattern where we are blabbing about ourselves while ignoring everyone else as much as possible. A very light touch with this or anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to you can become suspicious.

The one thing more than any other I'd recommend to any player or corporation that's heading out to nullsec is research. Lots and lots of it. Before you go out there. About the alliance, the corp, the coalition of alliances if there is one. And most of all about the Alliance Executor. In this fantasy MMO world its even easier for organizations to magnify and multiply the faults of their leader than in Real Life and we know how easy it is in RL. Do not make the mistake of thinking that you are moving to your new home and these are your new friends. That may very well be so and usually in fact is so. But there's no reason to accept that on face value. Every alliance is an old boy's network and that is as it should be. Just be very very clear about your place there. They don't care that you are such great guys. They want to know if you are useful. And you need to know that about them. As much as you can before you join them. And to you CEOs entering nullsec for the first time, please try not to lose sight of the nagging little detail that your new Alliance Executor buddy would sacrifice you and your corp in a New York minute if that's what he has to do in order to keep his position. And, 9 times in 10, your Alliance Executor is bought and paid for by another still yet larger alliance and Alliance Executor. But its OK. Even the biggest of the big doesn't get to stay there for long.

What to Expect In Nullsec
Nullsec is fun. Nullsec is where 10% of the players of EVE live and its the place where 90% of the stuff that happens in the game happens.
Its also a lot more challenging than hisec; and more exciting and interesting. Its where almost all the hardcoriest players play at least part of the time.
I was one of the people who was completely intimidated by nullsec and now I feel silly just remembering it.
What are you giving up when you leave hisec? Well mostly you are giving up the luxury of Playing EVE with only half your attention. People as a rule don't attend mining ops while watching movies in nullsec. You simply do not use autopilot in nullse. You don't get to play on mental autopilot either.

OK. So some of you have already read my comments in New Players: Very First Steps on EVE being a gerontocracy. Its true. The pace of training and constancy of one's progression as you go about your other activities mimics RL in a very real way. I wouldn't change it. I'm the kind of twisted obsessive that doesn't mind taking years to build a character, lay my Secret Evil Plans and yadda yadda. To me its just part of what makes it so easy to react to EVE as we do to RL, especially after we've been playing for a while. Just part of what makes the game so intense.

But there's a flip side to this that you as a new player can exploit once you stop being so worried about being new.

Since EVE is so similar to RL, it takes a lot of RL skills to play it especially to play it well. Look at the clues CCP themselves give us. There's a notepad, calculator, and evemail groups.

So what are the short cuts that make the edge that the more experienced players have even thinner?
