Planet textures not loading

I know others have already posted on this but even since the patch which supposedly fixed planet textures. I'm still not able to view gas planets correctly, either from space or in planet mode. Gas planets are just black. Please fix this issue!

I have a 2009 macbook pro.
2.53 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB DDR3

I have already tried reinstalling the client from scratch and clearing the cache with no improvement.

What does changing the shader setting do?

yeah, have tried changing around graphics settings also. i'm working on a fairly recent install/download of the game too...still can't see the gas planets.
