character purchasing

I have been pondering character purchasing for a while, and generally browsing what is available and im wondering a few things.

Prices dont scale linearly with SP it seems.
anyone know at what point you start getting a better deal?

I am pulling in a good amount of isk, and im essentially wondering: While i may be able to purchase a 15m SP character once i have maybe 1B more in my wallet, will spending 1 more month pulling in isk net me possibly 6 months of training time? and any opinions on when its worth it to buy in?

i am looking at something like going from a 8m SP character that i started the game on to a 15-25m SP character. so that 10m will be a pretty big difference to me. 1 or 2 billion isk on the other hand, isnt so hard to get. will i really benefit from waiting to go strait for the high sp? there seems to be a sort of divide at somewhere near 35m SP where everything above it people seem to see as more of a high SP character...

You won't get a "good deal" on any character which has had a decent training plan. If the skills are all over the place then the price will probably be low but it still won't be a good deal.

You will be exceptionally lucky to pay 1-2bill for a 15-25mill SP character - unless the skills are garbage.

In the last 6 months I have sold 2 characters :

1) A perfect JF pilot, 23mill SP for 7 billion;

2) A not quite perfect SB/prober pilot (22.5mill) for 6.7bill.

A lot of people use the character appraiser which you'll find linked somewhere in the char bazaar - it consistently undervalues characters (deliberately IMHO). That's also what gives the strange split in prices at 35mill SP - which is garbage too. I ignored the appraiser and got 25-30% more with ease.

For a specialised character expect to be paying 1 billion ISK per 4 mill SPs.

those are actually better prices than i was looking at. I am considering spending 5-7B and looking at 13-25m characters.
I dont really care if they have spare, unfocused SP. my current character does somewhat and it doesnt bother me at all.

the prices im looking at may be higher than average due to my interest in having T3 ship skills, which are probably valued above average.

Also, there are so many characters with crap Tank skills its just sad.

well thanks but thats not the investment im looking for, since its basically a Paladin pilot and im looking for a shield tanking cruiser pilot. But thanks for the offer.

I also need to make a few more billion isk...

I think i will be looking for:
Min or Cladari Cruiser V
T3
Logistics
T2 shield tank skills
Electronics/fitting skills
Astrometrics
Battlecruisers
A T2 weapon system
in about that order of importance.
and whatever else is a bonus
Im sure i'll have to bend a little on one or two of those to get a reasonable deal.

I think the problem you are about to face is more with the popularity of a toon with this skill set than the sp value itself. A lot of people want tengu pilots... Whether it is for botting or daddy's credit card holders. So Honestly either ditch for another race t3, or perhaps set a price range and put up a WTB thread.

Beside the character value calc which imo is garbage, characters above 35mil are more expensive most of the time because that is the point that capital ship training on a majority of characters starts, which the skills alone are 1bil isk.

This could be the price influx your seeing. However on a side now, IF you are paitent, and you know what you are looking for you can get a great deal, alot of people are impaitent with buying/selling characters.

I bought this character at 30mil sp for 4.2bil, He just hit 40mil sp two days ago. He also came with HG Slaves, but since he had -7.2 sec status i got an amazing deal, all i had to do was spend a couple days ratting and fixing the sec status, while making isk :D
