Level 4's in low sec

Solution, put a mission ship in the lowsec system that the missions are always in (assuming there is a station). This way you simply take a cloaky or small ship into lowsec, dock , get mission ship, run mission. Keep the ship there, don't fly back and forth with it.

Direction Scanner is a must, learn to use it!

But, by all means if this is too difficult, please keep bringing those mission ships into low sec, they make good killmails!

Use cheap ships, don't pimp em out. Also, keep in mind that there are Cruiser Sized ships able to deploy 5 Sentries. Ishtar and Gila. Strap a MWD and Cloak on them, and you should be pretty safe in terms of gatecamps. If you undock, check with a shuttle first or have an alt outside station permacloaked. If you happen to run a lot in one lowsec system, you could also setup a small pos, store your mission ship in there, grab missions in shuttles. This way, they can camp the station 23/7 and still wont catch you. Keep an eye on directional, hit it EVERY 2 TO 3 SECONDS. Skilled probers need a timeframe of about 10 seconds, in which the combat probes are visible on your directional. If there is an acceleration gate into your mission, you might also
a) place a cloaked alt to it and you will see anyone who travels through (even cloakies, they have to decloak to activate gate) or
b) set your directional to the distance of the acceleration gate you used, you will see on direx whenever someone wants to join you (hit direx every second).

And standard EVE rule #1 as well as #2 always apply: Don't fly what you can't afford to lose, and only in a clone up2date.

Honestly I think its better to take lvl 4's that are offered by lowsec agents. There are tons of gate campers waiting on the routes that AP takes when you get a lowsec mission from a highsec agent.

This demonstrates why low sec missioning isn't feasible. Yeah, it's possible, but who wants all that hassle?

i may or may not have been daytripping into w-space for 10 hours straight, d-scanning every few seconds for the whole time.

It's really not that dire. If someone is in system and acting suspicious, make sure you spam dscan. If you're alone or if someone seems pretty uninterested in what you're doing, you're probably safe.

A certain level of paranoia is healthy and justified, but at the same time it likely won't save you from everything.

By the by, I actually disagree with the suggestion to keep a mission ship in a lowsec system for running stuff there. For the most part, station camps are harder to work with than gate camps because while you're unlikely to die in the latter, it can totally trap you for a long period of time. Granted it's a better idea if you're running a frequently-camped gate, but what's to stop someone from just camping your station instead?

WHY?!

You can run L4 missions in an AF. It takes a while but it is possible. You can also run them in different T3s - T2 fit with or without the cloak sub. Depending on the mission you could even blitz it with a dps bomber.

Just fly the minimum you need to do the mission, use the dscan and the local list, bookmark a few mid-warp spots and you'll be fine.

When I used to do 4's in low sec, I simply found an agent in a quiet area and docked up anytime someone I didn't know entered whatever system I was in. Never lost a ship. I've always found the border systems to be the most dangerous. You can find some nice quiet places further in.

Don't take a 900m ship. Use a drake, or a Domi or some other cheap ship.

If the system is empty the odds are very good you can complete the mission. If the system has anyone with a negative sec status, forget about it.

Same reason you'd do a L4 in a frigate. Just to say you've done it. I wouldn't recommend it on a regular basis.
