Questions regarding ECM

Hey there,

I'd like to know how exactly the ECM formula works, the percentage chance to jam a target etc. as well as tactics on how to ECM properly. Do you activate all modules at once, or are you doing staggered ECM? Is there a difference?

Also, possible ways to counter ECM.
I can clearly see, that there are ECCM modules boosting your Sensor Strength significantly.
However, i just 'explored' the lowgrade sets like Grail, Spur and so on. They are relative cheap and add +1 of the race's sensor strength to your ship. So basically, with 3 cheap imps, your ship can have 4 different sensor strengths. 3 of them are only 1, however. If you are suffering from ECM cycles now, wouldn't your chance of staying unjammed be significantly higher, because the jammer has to successfully land on all 4 sensors instead of only one?

jam chance = jam strength/target sensor strength

Using ecm gives you space aids, so as a space doctor I recommend against it

Well, Mr. Michael Harari, i understand that ECM is ridiculously overpowered and not very fun to play against. However, it is overpowered, so why not use it? People fly T3s alldayerryyday, because they are overpowered. Don't argue with some terrible reasons like 'Because it breaks the game! It's ugly! No fun at all!'. Make the game better, utilize the sh*t out of it, make everyone everywhere use ECM. It will break gameplay, it will force CCP to make a 'quick' fix Soon™. Also i tried to figure out an 'easy way' to counter ECM, and using some cheap implants *might* be that thing I'm looking for. I haven't tried yet, i don't know if it will work, i wanted to look for ideas, inspiration, expierience here first.

€dit: Is your ECM-Formula just a rough indicator, or is it accurate? How will multiple module activations affect the target? Cause if this formula is accurate, i will really consider flying Griffins alldayerryday within FW plexes and annoy everyone. I dont give a **** about space aids.

Michael's formula is correct for one cycle or a single jammer.

For multiple cycles do the maths yourself :

Pr = (1-(1-p)^N) x 100% where N is number of ECM cycles and p is probability of success to jam

For multiple jammers N becomes number of jammers rather than ECM cycles.

Or this used to work, dunno if it still does.

There is a dev thread over in features and ideas that talks about proposals for Tech One E-War frigates. In it they hint that ECM is going to go through a revamp.
