Everyone ignores the top 2 results anyway as they are always going to be China and USA. (or USSR and USA before the soviet breakup)

Now divide population by medals gained. The result: Americans need to breed a lot more than almost any other nation until they manage to produce offspring that can compete internationally. The chinese even more so.

On another note: thank you, USA. You saved the west once more.

USA, USA!
The only country that could lead the rest of the world in Olympic gold medals AND obesity.

Well done!

Ha ha!
Not to be a traitor ot the U.S., but it's also interesting to see the number of medals won per capita (country's population divided by number of medals). The powerhouses by this metric-- Grenada and Jamaica! Smile (Of course, some of those athletes may have been in U.S. university athletic programs). http://www.medalspercapita.com/

I've a reinforced love of womens field hockey after watching NZ vs NL; so many attractive women, too many to pick a favourite from.

Find it funny when brits make fun of the US for being obese... Meanwhile they're in a close second, (trailing by 6%) followed by Australia/Mexico which are tied.

Pot calling the kettle round.

All the fuss about the "beach" volleyball might make more sense then actually, as they have beaches.

Although, I'm sure I read somewhere that golf will be part of the 2016 program but i hope it was a hoax.

That's still not a fair metric because it doesn't account for the number of events competed for.

Take Grenada. That ONE medal is also the nation's ONLY medal, ever. And that was by an athlete who was trained in the U.S. Not to diminish any pride Grenada should take from this, I'm just pointing out that both metrics are pretty broken.

And here I was thinking that the Olympics were a celebration of the human spirit and a good natured contest between the best all nations have to offer. Guess I was wrong. Sad

Too much controversies happened in this game. Not fun not Olympic-ish.

I just know the topic would become everything about China lol. So fun to watch ppl getting high from patriotism.
