Player Features and Ideas Discussion

I know the idea for an IGB video player is old. Many of us want to be able to watch YouTube, Hulu and Pornhub while mining or ratting. Old idea, but here's a spin I've been working on...

See, the IGB video player would be too... I dunno. I think clunky would be the right word.

Instead, here's a solution, but first an explanation.

CCP announced at Fanfest that one of the first few major updates to the DUST/EVE connection would be the ability for players in both games to view arena-style matches in-game and bet on the outcomes. One can only imagine that for EVE, that would require you guys to have a video player anyway. So, what if you expanded on that?

I hate having to resort to going to someone's stupid-ass blog (Poetic Stanziel comes to mind) or, god help me, EVE News 24 (Literally FOX News In Space). I WOULD LOVE to see ISD and GM's getting a new role: Reporting on big events in-game, as they happen, with "breaking news" alerts and traffic advisories and **** like that.

Look at it like this, my main is in an unpopular popular alliance that participated in Burn Jita. Because I am a Redditor I knew of Burn Jita weeks before it happened, because I was drowned in links and headlines and stuff. But the Joe Average player doesn't know these things, because they either don't go to these sites or they just don't have the time.

What if they could get news headlines on the NeoCom showing high-sec acts of war in real-time, traffic advisories, actual news reporting, etc.

EVE is big. Hundreds of thousands of players. That's a city, man. Cities have their own news channels. I think we should have ours.

I for one volunteer to be one of those reporters. Maybe it's because my blood sugar is low or maybe it's because I've been on this Newsroom kick, but if you guys need a Will McAvoy for EVE Online, I'm your guy.

Like, you know those Scope videos for past expansions, the ones that are basically mock news broadcasts? I'd love to be able to see those in real-time, reporting relevant stuff. This would require tools for video splicing and stuff but I am confident you guys could make it work.

A better, interactive news ticker in your Captian's Quarters and when zoomed in on billboards would be absolutely amazing. Those things already announce bounties and mention SOV changes. Having them bigger, coverving a wider variety of events (Allaince Smack Talk, Corp/Alliance Recruitment, Upcoming Events, Livestreams, Eve Radio Events, Alliance Tournaments) would cover all of this without the need for an entirely new mechanic or fundimental redesign of anything critical.

I would also LOVE the ability to put up Classifieds and Personals on a Region by Region basis for ISK. If you can avoid the Time To Penis problem, that is.
