Before I ask this question, yes I used the Search Forums and didn't find a thread about it.

My question is: Will this ship ever become a reality in Eve Online?

Probably Soon™

I have no clue, but I would absolutely love it if they used that model for the Raven at the very least, I like that a lot more than the current model.

I don't know if that specific ship is coming, but the winners from design a ship competition is definately coming.

What software was used to create that image, if you know?

I'd like to do some ship designing :P

I'm not sure what it was created with, but for some beginner modeling, I would suggest Blender. It's fairly easy to use and works well for basic modeling. All the hotkeys may take some time to get used to, but most of them are fairly simple to remember.

That isn't ever going to be an actual ship because it didn't win either create a starship competittion.

The deviantdart competition was the only one where CCP said they were actually going to add the winner to the game and the winner was the tornado battleship which I'm pretty sure everyone has given up hope of ever seeing already.

http://news.deviantart.com/article/133951/

And there was the in-house competition where they didn't actually say they were going to include the winner in the game and the winner was the Mentor BC.

If CCP could pry their art department away from incarna for just one second you'd think actually making the art assets would be fairly simple since its only one hull, not even a T3 and the person who made it even suggested some stats for it so CCP don't have to get all OCD over trying to figure out a niche for it.

Funny how, both in games and movies, spaceships tend to end up looking just like planes with wings defined as:

"Wikipedia" wrote:
A wing is an appendage with a surface that produces lift for flight and/or propulsion through the atmosphere, or through another gaseous or liquid fluid. A wing is an airfoil, which has a streamlined cross-sectional shape producing a useful lift to drag ratio.

I agree, they look nice. But I wonder what a combat spaceship would actually look like, with the knowledge that we currently possess. It might have appendages and extensions, but most likely only used for sensory equipment.

Once EVE (hopefully) evolves into something which allows us to land on planet surfaces, I'm sure the odd Tempest pilot would sense the squeaking of his cockpit when gravity kicks in.

I'd love to see the Mentor in game. Maybe as an Amarr Battleship to match the Tornado if that ever makes it in game.

Though the Caldari need something better than that Peregrine. It looks too much like the Caldari fighter bomber (Mantis).

Might look like this

Since there is no need for aerodynamics in space there is no reason except aesthetics to make "ships" look like "planes/jets/whatever flying object" on the contrary if you look at it from a real world perspective adding features like wings and panels to a space-only vessel would only produce weakspots unless those features are already sealed off from the rest of the ship and do not contain any equipment which would render them obsolete in return.
This brings us back to the start unless a spaceship also has to travel through any kind of atmosphere there is no reason to build such ships in any other form than cubes or spheres.

But internet spaceships would be a horrific place if we would all be flying different colored balls and cubes xD

Hmmm... do you know about the theory of sloping armour in tanks? How it adds to the defensiveness of the vehicle?

Same theory would apply to shields. So there is some common sense to ship design that has nothing to do with aerodynamics.

But why would you want to make ships that can't fly thorugh atmospheres or nebula or dock at planets for repairs, restock or collect stuff? A lot of missions take place in gas clouds - that would be impossible for half of EVE's ships.

Since one of the promises from the recent devblog was "more ships" my personal theory is we will see another tier of Battleships released, of which the Tornado will be one.

Possibly a third tier of Battlecruiser which includes the Mentor, too.

The other choice, is they create some "lore reason" why, say, the Tempest hull is being retired and replace the Tempest with the Tornado.

"Minmatar engineers have discovered a flaw with the top wingy bit that can lead to structural failure at warp" etc.

"Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Beware of pretty girls in dance halls and parks who may be spies, as well as bicycles, revolvers, uniforms, arms, dead horses, and men lying on roads -- they are not there accidentally." -Soviet infantry manual,

IT will "maybe" be the counter part of Tornado.

You know, the one delivered by the end of this summer Lol (next year?)

Makes things a little harder on the inertial dampers, if the center of gravity isn't, well, centered. ;)
