Does Heavy Missle skill impact HAMs in any way?

Im somewhat confused about missile skills as there have been changes since i last looked in to it. Im starting some crossing training now though and at the moment i have two questions.

First:
Do HAMs benefit from both Heavy missile skill and Assault missile skill or ONLY from Assault missile?

Second:
What about Rapid light missiles .. are those considered Assault missiles as well and if so .. same question. Do they benefit from Light missile and Assault missile or just one or the other.

Thanks in advance, I did a search and found plenty about "should i use HAM or heavy" but did not find anything really defining what skills impact what.

The skills affect the missile itself, not the launcher, so if you're using Assault Missiles, the Assault Missiles skill benefits them, not the Heavy Missiles skill. So if you get confused, just ask yourself "What type of missile am I loading into this launcher?"

Rapid Light Missile Launchers use Light Missiles, which are affected by the Light Missiles skill.

Thanks for the info guys.

Thats interesting i was pretty sure there used to be two separate launchers one for assault missiles and one for heavy. Did not realize there is only one launcher and its the missiles that matter.

Either my memory is off or that must have been a change since i last looked in to missiles (been a while)

Ach wait a sec right after i posted that I did a market search and sure enough there still IS a heavy assault missle launcher. so im not sure i follow what your saying here as you seem to indicate its just a heavy launcher and then you load either normal heavies or assaults in to it.

He wrote it right. You are not comprehending it right.

Yes there are 2 types of launchers.
Yes there are 2 types of missiles.
The skill applies to the corresponding missile specifically.
The skills do not cross over or interact with each other.

Let me try to further clarify.

- There is no ammo called a "Heavy Assault Missile"
- However there are Assault Missiles and Heavy Missiles
- Heavy Assault Missile Launchers use Assault Missiles, not Heavy Missiles
- You find this out by right-clicking on the launcher, show info, attributes
- Under "Used with (chargegroup)" you see Assault Missile

A Heavy Assault Missile Launcher doesn't use both Assault and Heavy Missiles, rather it is an Assault Missile Launcher that is heavy. It could easily be called "Mega Assault Missile Launcher" instead.

When you train Assault Missiles, you aren't increasing the damage of the launcher, you are increasing the damage of the missile itself.

Open Character sheet in game:

-> Certificates tab and open
-> Certificate planer tab and open
-> Missiles launcher controle tab open.

Certificate missiles lancher control, will affect every missile
Other certificates refer to which type of missiles they refer to.

Exceptions.

Guide missiles (Light, Heavy and Cruise) benefit from:

- Guided missile precision
- F.o.F. Missiles (all Guided missiles have a F.o.F. version)

This should be sufficient

To make it easier for you:

Heavy Assault Missiles = Blasters/Autocanons/Pulse Lasers
Heavy Missiles = Railguns/Artillery/Beam Lasers

Well, more or less :p

Oh, and not that you'd want to, but you pretty much can't fit Light or Heavy Defender Missiles in anything other than the vanilla launchers of each size.

EFT can show what skills affect the missile

Make/Import a fit with a launcher, and select a charge for it.
Right Click the launcher and select either

  • 'charge info' and then check the [requirements] tab for skill/implant listing
  • 'change affecting skill' (Top half above line is for launcher, Bottom half below line is for charges)
