They are replacing self-destruct with a "warp into sun" option. Obviously, you'll have to break the point on you first.

So the whole option is pretty useless then. might as well remove from game completely.

Not if you're stuck in J-Space, or deep in a Null Pocket and need to take the Pod-Express to Jita.
