I wonder how many "miners" that leaves?

Thanks for all the answers so quickly, everyone. I guess I thought EVE was more of a mental game where there was more intelligence and thinking people than other MMORPGs. I guess every game is a microcosm of the real world in many ways.

I can also see how doing one thing can be boring, and the need to expand your knowledge and gameplay is important to most. It's a good lesson to start out... I'll try experience all of EVE and make choices based on what I like and the things I am able to do well.

I'm new to the game, so please forgive me if this is a stupid question... but why are there so many haters toward miners out there? Don't miners provide a valuable service to the EVE community, creating the basic building blocks of the ships, weapons, etc. etc. that power every aspect of the game?

I see so many people complaining about miners with the new version. I just started recently, so I don't understand it all... but it makes me wonder. Maybe I'm missing an important point about the game?

Anyway, why do so many people hate miners? Should I forego a career as a miner because everyone hates them, and instead become a mission runner. I don't have the time to put into being a good PvPer, which is why I was drawn to EVE... you can do things in EVE, well from what I understand, without having EVE be a full time job (of which I already have one).

The primary reason that I've noticed is that miners tend to be 'hands-off' when it comes to PvP, and many pilots think EVE is supposed to be strictly PvP.

Here's a note, miner-haters: we provide the ore that builds your ships, your modules, your rigs....without us, you'd most likely have nothing but your pod to pewpew in (and since a pod has no weapons at all, that would be really boring).

Vu, keep on mining away.

Miners make something from nothing, so people akin Mining or Afk Mining to isk printing. Prices of ships fluctuate with availability of materials such a minerals, making it so people who make money of ship selling hate lots of miners while people who like to PvP love miners ( to kill and provide new ships ).

Mining is also not all that hard, Pretty much anyone can train it up on the side making Hybrid Corps more common nowadays rather than dedicated PvP or Indy/PvE Corps.

That's not a bad idea. It will be a better training route toward the PvP you'll need to get to keep the game interesting.

Once again, James 315 and his strange obsession with miners.

I like how being a douche is 'bringing emergent gameplay' when discussed on the forums. Yes douchery is part of the game but stop cloaking it in some sort of heroic martyrdom.

The medieval (or eariler) mentality is quickly explained:

- alpha male A will whack everybody with a club. Those "everybody" are henceforth considered inferior, dumb, bad, to hate and crush.

- bigger alpha male B comes in and clubs alpha male A.

- alpha male A "respects" alpha male B. Both hate everybody else and consider them inferior, dumb etc. etc.

nobody hates miners.

people hate stupid people.

due to the recent changes all the stupid miners have come out of the woodwork. because they are stupid, people hate them. it has nothing to do with the fact that they're miners.

People hate miners because their e-peens are tiny and they are hoping to make a great internet tough guy career.

PvP as in ship versus ship is considered the "uber leet best of EVE" by the simple minded . Which is funny, because EVE ship versus ship is quite dumb and simplistic, while industry and marketing is what takes some serious thinking and mental capacity (opposed to F1 F2 F3 peeveepee).

The more time you dwell in EVE the more you will discover that the so called "die hard ship PvPers" are usually the youngest, the dumbest and the most insecure and whiny sort of players in the game. If you like to team up with somewhat grown up and mentally stronger people, you should go with PvE / industrial corps.

While a lot of these view points are correct any way you look at them, the 'hate' was just a justification in the gankers minds to make them feel a little more humane while blowing up the game's decently expensive yet easily explodeable killboard padding item.
