Miner Haters... why?

I'm new to the game, so please forgive me if this is a stupid question... but why are there so many haters toward miners out there? Don't miners provide a valuable service to the EVE community, creating the basic building blocks of the ships, weapons, etc. etc. that power every aspect of the game?

I see so many people complaining about miners with the new version. I just started recently, so I don't understand it all... but it makes me wonder. Maybe I'm missing an important point about the game?

Anyway, why do so many people hate miners? Should I forego a career as a miner because everyone hates them, and instead become a mission runner. I don't have the time to put into being a good PvPer, which is why I was drawn to EVE... you can do things in EVE, well from what I understand, without having EVE be a full time job (of which I already have one).

I have a better question: Why do so many miners hate the gankers, can-flippers, pirates, and others who bring them excitement and emergent gameplay that only EVE can provide?

That's not a bad idea. It will be a better training route toward the PvP you'll need to get to keep the game interesting.

Welcome to EvE, as you will notice every type of player hates every other

People hate Miners, Gankers, PvP, Mission Runners, Hi-sec people, Null sec People, Lo-sec people, Wormholers the list goes on

Its easy pick where you belong and dislike all others Smile

I don't hate them. I actually enjoy the diversity they provide. Staring at cycles gets old after awhile.

As for why people hate us as miners, it is due to the fact that we make money off of little to no training, and all we have to do is sit there and hope none of the flippers or gankers find us. Thankfully, James is providing some new and exciting entertainment in the mining industry, though.

That depends on your mental capacity, If you are more like a sheep go PvP, if you intelligent become a miner/manufacturer.

Or if you have a huge pair go into wormholes.

See the action of hating/belittling other player groups in action.

It's not that people hate miners, it's that a subset of miners are self entitled whining asshats that refuse to adapt to the fact that everything in Eve is a form of PvP. The moment you undock is the moment that you consent to being exploded, tank your mining ships, don't AFK and above all don't cry in local when you explode, tears are valuable currency.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I wouldn't say mining requires intelligence, and you can manufacture without mining yourself. Hard, but doable.

Actually I find it easier, certainly a lot less tedious

Just realize the forums are the vocal minority. Most players go about their gamelives without experiencing a lot of the hate and vitriol that is spewed here.
Eve is a game (regardless of what they say) and as such, play it however you want to, as long as you're having fun.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

And less time consuming. It's okay, I'll continue to mine for you. Go make me moar ships so the gankers have something to kill when I'm mining by my lonesome.

WHAT? Nowai bro, we represent all that is good and honest and just in the player-base of this game. Screw the 80% of players that don't even know the forums exist.

Well, I'm no expert, but during the course of my life so far, I've observed that the majority of people seem to have this instinct/urge to hate something. It doesn't really matter who or what it is, but something has to be the "bad guy".

This isn't something unique to Eve, either. Everywhere, in almost everything, people will always have a strong desire to find and create enemies. Sure would be nice if we could all find a way to get along and stop killing each other, eh...?

Also, gankers are lame and should be banned from the internet.....

because I say so...

We don't hate miners. We hate carebears.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

I love miners.

I hate whiny carebears who expect CCP to fix everything for them to remove risk even though mechanics already exist to let the player do this.

There are plenty of good reasons.
