Updating the UI to display more complete information that it should have been displaying since Day 1 is of course dumbing down the game, you're absolutely right.

Woah there tiger! It would be a shame if you destroyed your integrity with immature attack comments like that. I don't think you can actually have negative integrity.

You asked me once, what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already. Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world.

This is absurd. The changes CCP have been making as of late have been making things more convenient and accessible. That is not the same thing as "dumbing down the content" or any crap like that. If CCP were to do something like weakening NPC pirates or slashing skill training times, then you might have a reason to get pissy.

Until then, bugger off. >_>

Coming back to confirm that yes, this is indeed the stupidest thread on the EvE forums to date.

coming from other mmos I thought eve was pretty easy to get into. maybe that is because when I first started gaming there were no tutorials and you learned the game by pressing all the buttons and seeing what they did (or maybe read the manual but who did that?). and the first mmo I played spawned you naked, and you had to go out into the newbie zone and punch stuff to death and hope something dropped. I'm a press all the button and read all the descriptions kinda guy.

in eve I was lucky enough to have a friend give me 500k isk to get started, that was enough for a frigate to start on level 1 missions. I think he might have given me some advice as well, but honestly I remember the basic strategies learned elsewhere, such as kiting, to be very effective in eve. that and rookie help was pretty helpful. plus salvage was worth a good bit back then. I thought I struck a pretty good balance of training support and learning skills. it did get a bit slow when I went from 4/4 to 5/4, but by then I was in a drake running the hell out of level 3 missions, also did weapon upgrades 5 awu 4, a ton of core skills, and got tech 2 drones. I did however completely ignore my missile skills, I had around 700-800k in missiles with missile bombardment 5.

about 2 years back now I ran an alt through the tutorials and they seemed super duper easy, free frigs and even a destroyer!? and that SOE arc, not to mention no learning skills! seems like a great time to be a newb. my experience was a bit tainted as I can read between the lines and know what the tutorial meant, so any little corrections they can make I think are good. a bit more resources and some ideas on how to reasonably fit a ship are good things for newbs. some of it certainly would have helped me out when I first started (good god I'm scared to think of how I fit my first ships).

Well... I'm taking your quote off my workstation then! Evil

Laying claim to Out of Pod Experience since 2007, plain and simple. Keep the trash out of Out Of Pod Experience, If it's EVE Related or deserves a Lock, it does not belong here.

There have been some simplifications to eve over the years, but none recently. The current set of changes being made are balance and role revisions which should have been made years ago. If you want examples of simplification and making it more WoW like, you have to go back a few years when they started adding warning messages for every little thing.

Once upon a time, you didn't get a warning if you tried to AP your freighter through low sec, undock with drugs in high sec, jump as an outlaw with GCC into high sec or try to GCC on someone in high sec your first day playing. I committed all those mistakes at some point or another with the exception of the freighter, I was on the receiving end of it's loot in that case. Come to think of it, I miss those days. So many "doh!" moments back then.Lol

Dear CCP, please remove all warning messages from the game. Players should be allowed to make stupid/careless mistakes more often. In fact they should be encouraged.Twisted

If this ever makes it out of vapour-ware, then EVE may well be obsoloete'ed.

And probably right freaking now, too.

Real-time fighting ( twitch based ): Most MMOs today use a semi-turn based, timed "cooldown" approach to combat. In Infinity, you are directly controlling your ships movements and weaponry in a twitch-based way, targeting your every movement. Your own skills and dexterity as a player make the difference, not a list of stats or skills on your character sheet!

that alone got me

i do believe that EVE should be easier accesible for new players , even if they are WoW refugess, aslong EVE stays as harsh and unforgiving ,
A new player will eventually decide to stay or not but allowing him to take that first hurdle , learning the basic principles and game mechanics in a relative easy and comfortable way will go along way to convince that new player to stay
EvE is pretty much unique we know that and they will learn that and appreciate it aswell
I also play other games online and what i hear in those games when talking about that one special MMO is that people really want to try it but that it was pretty hard to get pass the tutorials

New player who actually stay beyond their tutorial benefit us all and not only CCP

I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire

What about all the refugees from old-school MUDs and text-based adventures? Isn't CCP planning to add in a command console for them too?

You are at Amamake. You see a sun. You see a planet, a planet, a planet, a planet, a planet, and a planet. You see exits to Ossogur, Gulmorogo, Auga, Vard, Siseide, and Dal. You see a monument here.
There is a Loki, a Loki and an Orca here.

Loki attacks you and hits!

You are in your Captain's Quarters in Dodixie. There is no one here but you.

You would have to have been living under a rock lately to not see the changes to eve and the simpicity that is being implemented but one wonders is this a direct result of the popular child game wow and its recent sub loss. If WOW is losing subs faster than football players at penn state where are they going? Eve possibly? Do you think refugees from other mmos will impact eve and how long will they stay and to what extent will CCP modify eve to retain these refugees?

lol sumones been reading rumour sites

WOW is still going strong and has over 14 milllion pre ordered copies of MOP coming including myself

How can people moan about simplicity, dumbing down and appealing to children when they make posts like a prepubescent teen with attention issues?
