Scanning IDs - do they change?

I was wondering, if I have done a scan, and I get some results with IDs for example XYX123 or ABC456, if I leave the system and come back, or come back after the downtime, and scan again, will the sites have the same IDs? (providing the site is still there)

Thanks

IDs change at downtime. Any site that spawns at downtime will have the same three figures (or close enough that you can pick out the old sites by quick glance).

Edit: Here's more detail than requested:

I just jumped into a new system in a low sec Ladar region. I dropped a DSP and found five anomolies and one sig with strength .03. All five anoms have IDs starting with xDC where x is a different letter for each. This is the downtime ID for this system. The sig is KYD, so I know it's new. This means it's probably not a grav site. There are no wormholes or plexes on that band, so I can be fairly sure I'm looking at either a mag, a radar, or a potentially lucrative combat ladar with a reasonable chance of dropping a Nanite Control book.

Yay, system sorted without dropping more than one probe. Now I have the option of pinning it or moving to the next system.

Thanks for the info.

Not quite sure what you mean here. Are you saying you can tell a type of signature from it's ID?(!)

See now you are just confusing him.

Yes sig ID's change whenever there is a server reboot. Typically only at downtime. (or patch days!)

As to your other question.

Yeah, fair enough. Should have left well enough alone.

which is why i think this change to how IDs are generated is not elegant. You don't even have to start looking at signal strengths sometimes when looking for what signatures to probe. The IDs used to be totally random and i think it was okay that way.

I didn’t like it when it came in either, but now I’m a fan. It provides me with a heap more useful information easily. Variations on the logic that Zhilia describes has reduced the number of objects I scan fully when I am looking for something. Those IDs, their sig-size to a single DSP, and your knowledge and resources provide quite a bit of information … and I loves information :-)

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.
