AFK Complexes-Not a New Problem

It's come to CCP's attention recently, after years of this activity, that they don't like people afk'ing in complexes? I'm not sure if they're referring to just complexes or missions in general, etc, but this isn't an exploit. It's exactly how your program was designed to function. Fix the issue with your program and move on with life CCP. Threatening to ban players because they use a feature of your program is silly.

Drones attack things hostile to you. Easy fix. Turn that feature off. Because if you don't, exactly how much afk'ing is acceptable? I usually let my drones mop up whatever little things there are without targeting them if I run a mission. I've gone afk in a domi on a few occasions. Maybe I want to go make a pizza and let my drones mop up that last battleship and a few cruisers? Maybe just those last few frigates? Where's the line here? And let's not get into how when I'm mining I do nothing but afk with drones out(as does EVERYONE else in eve.) Of course I have to check back every few minutes, but I'm still afk 95% of the time.

The point is, this has been going on a very long time in some form or another, and it's not an exploit. It's a relatively simple fix if you have a problem with it, but it's not news. It's a game mechanic. I personally don't want to have to wonder if using your game mechanics is a violation of the eula or not while I'm playing this game.

Hence why they fix it. There's no immediate threat to anything in eve if that behavior continues until CCP can put together a patch. AFK plexing of some form or another has been around since I started playing in 2006 on my old char. I don't even run missions/plexes very much anymore if at all, but it's silly to say something so general about their game when a large proportion of players are very much afk a lot of the time mining, in missions, etc.

For example, I don't have to tell my drones to do anything in a mission beyond maybe the initial aggro. I can be at the PC doing whatever in eve, out of eve, keeping an eye on my ship without clicking it. Is that okay or is it bannable? It raises too many issues. It's the way they designed it to work.

If you read the edited news item, they're talking about specific COSMOS plexes where characters could literally afk for 23 hours with zero player input and rake in the ISK. You and pretty much everyone else in EVE have nothing to worry about in terms of this announcement, and CCP has said this.

Admittedly CCP did a absolutely atrocious job of phrasing the news item, but they've since clarified their point nicely there's no point in continuing to make a big deal out of it.

So ... you can't figure out not to AFK a plex 24/7 and you want to screw drone users by turning off autoattack?

Brilliant! you should run for government office and pass laws.

I don't know why they just don't quickly change the affected sites so you can't AFK it

It's only the specific COSMOS complexes in highsec with infinitely spawning NPCs. It has nothing to do with missions. If you took the time to read the existing threadnought with CCP responses or their 2 paragraph announcement you would know this. You would also know that nobody, even CCP, is claiming this activity is an exploit or botting. However, they are insisting that parking yourself while AFK in a highsec complex for 23hrs/day, 7days/week while generating huge amounts of ISK is close enough philosophically to what they consider to be bot-like behavior that it now warrants a ban when discovered. Banning bots and/or people who willingly exploit game mechanics is a good thing. Period. End of story.

Which is exactly why they've said they plan to fix mechanic that allows this to happen. In the meantime, people who willingly abuse this mechanic will be banned. People who bot or knowingly exploit game mechanics for their own personal gain do not deserve pity, they deserve to be banned. It's not that hard to understand.

Once again someone is complaining about the situation without bothering to clarify what they were doing.

It was a couple of specific hi sec Cosmos plexes as mentioned about, that were generating the players responsible over 14b a month...

To earn that all they did was warp to plex after DT, get set up and then walk away. Nothing like someone dropping drones in a mission and being afk for a little while.
