Storyline Agents Keep Trying to Kill Me!

I'm an industrial character. The only security missions I've done were in the tutorials.

However, the last 3-4 storyline missions I've gotten were security missions that were way way way above my skill level (~30k gunnery and missile combined). The missions I've done to earn the story line were courier missions for industrial corps.

My standings have taken a massive hit because of this.

What's going on with the mission selection?

The only thing I can think of is that I had fleeted up with a couple of corp mates who were doing lev 3 and 4 security missions in order to salvage. It was only 4 missions at most, IIRC, and a while ago. Could that skew it?

Storylines are all selected out of the same pool. Trigger a storyline? One gets randomly selected for you. There is no correlation between type of missions run to get the SL and type of SL.

So basically, you just got unlucky.

You don't have to accept (and fail) a storyline mission that you know you can't do.

Wormholes are cool, m'kay?

You can also have a corp mate do it for you. You got to warp to the site so he can get the warp in, but after that you sit back, get popcorn and watch. Once he is done, you turn it in.

Nope, no penalty for not accepting it. If you know you can complete it, clearly you should, thanks to the massive standings boost. But if not, no worries. Happy missioning. Big smile

Fixt

Seriously, when I used to run missions I would beg and plead for a combat storyline, but after about 200 mine/transport missions I gave up on them.

Storyline missions are random. Just ignore the ones you don't want to do (do not accept them and let them time out, though).

Later, I can assure you that you'll hate getting "Materials for War Preparation" for the sixth time in a row.

Fleet with someone and share the rewards, plus give them the loot and salvage, and I'm sure you won't lose any more standing. :) If you're in the Citadel give me a shout and I'll lend a hand.

Yep, just warp the fleet to the mission and quickly cancel your warp, the fleet will continue so they can pew pew while you wait. Personally I have the opposite problem, my storyline agents don't try to kill me enough, I keep getting missions to move junk or provide ore. It has been too long since I had shipyard theft and I like that mission. Cry
