Jump Math ???

I have been doing "jump practice" on SiSI so I'll know what I'm doing before I undock my Thanatos on TQ. Problem is that the route info is in "jumps" and the jump drive is in Light Years. Not only that, if I trial and error it, all that will change as my skills improve and allow me to jump farther.

Question : is there a method to determine how far away the cyno pilot is in light years before they light up? This would be awfully good to know so I can set up a jump route methodically and intelligently, and not just rely upon trial and error...

with much better UI

http://evemaps.dotlan.net/jump

also, if you live in nullsec, you can create an account with jumpbridges and plan your route for subcap

Using one of those planners should always be the default, but you also have the in game option of going to the star map and clicking the "unflatten" button. If you are in a ship with a jump drive, a bubble will appear around your system showing your jump range. It's useful in some niche scenarios, like when you need to check if a system linked in a channel is in range of you or not.

Why would I go through all that hassle to pivot the map around just to see if the jump bubble intersects a certain system when I can just refer to the 'Within range' tab on the capital navigation screen? much easier.

Okay - you got me. I can't find the Capital Navigation Screen let alone the "within Range" tab.

Where do I find these resources?

Hit escape, go into options, look under shortcuts. Create a shortcut for the capital navigation screen. Now you can view all cyno gens in range even while docked. Also, you will see two tabs, one is the 'within range' tab, other is the 'jump to' tab.

I simply set that system as destination, and then it's very clear from the start if it's in range or not. From there, I can follow our scout along on the map as he's chasing our target and make sure he stays in range.
Just go with whatever works for you and what you're comfortable with though, it doesn't really matter.
