you want a vote down button but I would vote down every post you make 12 times.

really bad idea.

What I want is a system where I can search for "highest rated" posts. Could be in a single thread, in a forum section, during that specific day, best of the month, etc.

Searching for "most liked" posts would seem like a waste of time since it is restricted to "going upwards only" and very timezone-dependent.

Not a bad idea. Except maybe at CSM election time. I can see a swarm of big alliance minions high-rating their leader's posts. Same could happen with recruiting threads too, maybe.

I will get at least -10 votes for every post simply for my alliance. Then a further -10 for my corp. And most likely -whatever for telling a miner they are stupid for thinking they didn't need a tank.

So this is my first post ever on these forums, and this is my first and only account. I've read many threads on these forums and have learned quite a bit and am still learning. I thought, though that i may be able to make a suggestion on this subject.

Instead of up rating or down rating the character, just uprate or down rate the individual replies.

as such a new reply would start at 0 then it could be uprated, increasing its rating above zero, or down rated decreasing its rating below zero (in which case the reply wouldnt disappear but it would colapse so as to not be seen but be able to be displayed if the reader wants to see it) or it its been rated above zero, a down rating will bring the rating closer to 0. Then the entire post could be automatically rated based on the average of the ratings of all the replies in the thread.

what do ya think?

I think you will end up at the same conclusion. Posters that aren't well liked, regardless of post quality, will be collapsed regardless of the quality of the post. People who disagree with you will downvote you regardless of the quality of the post. And again it will turn into a popularity contest of who can get the most votes to stay open.
Not to mention I have a condition that forces me to upsize a comment just to see why it was downsized.

You guys should read before posting. I have been talking since OP about rating a single post. Does not matter if you are a grade A poster or whatnot. Each post you make starts at zero as there is no way for people to see your previous posts without actually searching for your character.

Also, in regards to the 1000 likes 1000 dislikes posts... resulting in a score of 0. No effect? Not quite. 2000 people were affected enough by this post to actually voice their opinion. Such a post would be flagged as highly controversial and would probably be worth reading.

I'm sure you have heard that any publicity is good publicity. All we need is the right tools to make these posts pop out.

Posts that everyone skips because they lack content or fail to contribute won't even be voted upon and thus will be easier to skip.

The fact that you take an intarwebs posting forum this seriously is just sad. Seriously.

What you are asking for is what we have now except with a dislike button. And like I said, the quality of the poster wouldn't matter, it would be more focused on popularity.

People who don't take it seriously don't read the forums, even less respond to threads they deem "unworthy". Seems to me you like you lack self-respect.

It's only that way because likes add up on your character.

high/low rated posts would not.

The amount of effort to continuously upvote/downvote posts made by a certain character would be quite a challenge. Possible yes, but unrealistic in the long run.

I'm sure intelligent people could tell the BS voted posts, but at least it makes it possible for certain number of posts to stand out.

Also, even if it would not work, nothing prevents people from reading the forums unfiltered too so what is there to lose really?

So 10 people are constantly downvoting posts? Okay, CCP checks the apparent troll posts. What's this? These posts should not have been downvoted? Let's take a look at those accounts constantly downvoting. Issue warning. Again? Account temp ban from the forums. Again? Account permanently banned from posting. Since this would be a tool to detect troll posts faster, abusing this system would simply backfire at those who try to.

Wait, downvoting the same person will run the risk of getting me banned? Now I really don't want this implemented. There's a lot of people I would like to downvote constantly that somebody else may like, so this means that opinion would be moderated by the GM's.

Have you ever read the msn discussions on some of the heated topics? Somebody shows a differing opinion of the majority of the crowd and their response gets voted into oblivion. We aren't exactly the league of extraordinary gentlemen here, the same would in fact happen.

I'm thinking of not getting into heated discussions that would require me to ask for more buttons to push when angry? Get one of those baby toys that has a steering wheel, unbreakable mirror, a horn, etc and just use that.

Only if you abuse the system. What about some sort of "report post for ... (reportable offence)" button. Similar to the report ISK spammer we have in-game already?

One man's definition of abuse is different from another. How do you define the limits of what abuse is.

Same thing for trolling, yet we have people enforcing the no trolling rule.
