Re the so called mining improvments on the latest patch.

It is early days yet but this patch looks to be little more than smoke and mirrors with very little in the way of actualy improvment.

Take the mackinaw.

The cycle times of the ice harvesters seem to have been dramaticaly reduced, and you can now fit an extra ice harvesting upgrade in its new low slot.

But a closer inspection seems to be that while cycle times are reduced the advent of the mackinaw now only producing one ice block per cycle seems to have made it produce about 90% of an ice block less over the same cycle times as before the patch so less actual ice produced per cycle. before the patch to produce 4 blocks of ice = one cycle now 2 cycles are required to produce the same 4 blocks of ice. the two cycles take longer compaired the old one cyccle for me with my skills thats a +40 seconds longer to produce 4 ice blocks.

I have to ask why the smoke and mirrors CCP why have an extra upgrade for a worst cycle time to producing the same as before.

Also the tank seems to have improved but alass not enough to make the situation as a whole worth while. If you opt to fit a mining rig your tank will suffor that is not a worth while trade off IMHO.

in this patch all you will be doing it making your mackinaw produce less than what it did before with a lot more messing about and have an even lighter tank.

OMG The poor Hulk now looks to be very sad Ugh very sad indeed.

The Mackinaw is no longer an ice mining ship, but a mining ship designed for not needing a jetcan. You're welcome.

There is no specific ice mining ship. You can stick a rig in either A) The mining ship designed to have an incredible tank B) the ship designed to have an incredible hold or C) The ship with an ice cycle bonus but which works best with support.

So if you fit a mining rig instead of a tank rig to increase your max yield you also don't get max tank? How weird. It must be a bug or some random oversight.

did you even read the ******* patchnotes? ice and mercoxit bonuses are now moved to rigs. hulk is king of yield - in all things.

Tedium and difficulty are not the same thing, if you don't realize this then STFU about game design.

I just don't see what you are complaining about. You have been freed from the shackles of their only being one choice when mining! Now you get to have a ship that is customized specifically to your particular style and needs.

Other miners see this as a nerf. I see this as a buff. Hallelujah! Free at last!

So the yield has dropped slightly, while the cargo capacity and tank have been significantly upgraded.

Welcome to trade-offs. The Hulk might get the yield you're looking for. Just don't expect to go solo in it, as that's not what it was intended for.

There is an Ice Mining rig now that you can fit to any Barge to make it an ice mining barge.

It's actually kind of better because now you can rig the Hulk and turn it into a ship that is best at both ore and ice. Instead of using the Mack for Ice and Hulk for ore as before.

well i dont think thats a point. Using a hulk for mining and this ship is obselete now for me and not usable cause i mine alone not in gang besides skill points wasted for this ship. Had a cargo bay of 27k m3 in my fit now im utterly screwed because it cannot fulfill any roll as intended through ccp's changes. Petitioned a reimbursement because of capital loss and non usabilityt

They overhauled the whole role of mining ships i dont care about that but i do care to have to adjust to this crap buyin a mackinaw for cargo bay summa 200milj + and rising and prolly never usin the hulk anymore. I thought ccp was so proud of being so flexible with regards to fittings and roles well this one Mining ships they srewed up in my opinion.
