I have some general questions about setting up a POS for the first time.

  1. What are the requirements to set up a POS in high-sec?
  2. Can a moon only have one POS? If so, is it hard to find "empty" moons in high-sec?
  3. Is is possible to have a personal POS in null-sec or do POSs belong to the alliance/corp?

1. Your corp must have an average faction standing of 10*system security level or greater (0.5 systems require 5.0+ faction standing with the faction that controls that space). The system must also be no higher than 0.7 sec.

2. One POS per moon. And free moons are easy enough to find as long as you're more than 5-10 jumps from Jita. The only significant demand is right around Jita because of traders wanting to keep production as close to Jita as possible.

3. Well, POSes are technically corp property, you need a corp to launch one. Alliances will usually let you drop a personal POS if you want (so long as it doesn't block an important moon), but defending one without an alliance backing you would be quite difficult. Edit to clarify: You can drop one solo (one-man corp) and you can even run one solo, but you really can't defend one solo.

^ A POS in null/lowsec owned by a one-player corp is like a bright red flashing target symbol.

... for ~5 minutes.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

This.

If you want to seebdreadnoughts, cariers and the big shiny stuff. Use a solo corp and drop a pos in lowsec / nullsec.

On a note about finding an open moon in high sec... one option is to find a high sec island.

Hi sec islands are single or small groups of systems which have patches of low security systems in between them and the majority of high sec proper.

As a result, many high sec players avoid them, since traveling there forces you to venture into low sec. If you are willing to tolerate the risk of traveling in low sec, a high sec island POS is unlikely to ever be harassed unless you go out of your way to make enemies.

In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse.
