So I know is a like it or hate it kind of thing. But a while back there was alot of hype towards the ambulation concept and the rumor mill started up alot of cool concepts reguarding player interaction in side a station.

But what happened? ever since the captains quarters came out back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and hulks could still get ganked, their was a bit of hype over it. now it seems dead, and im curious as to whether there is any more development being put forth in the concept.

I wont like, I like the captains quarters - only because it is funner to glitch on the stairs to dubstep than it is to spin ships.

They are still working slowly on it, it is expected to be released some time between next year and the end of time.Lol

I seem to remember CCP having a working Ambulation prototype, with full stations and corporate meeting rooms and the like.

Then they scrapped it all and we got Incarnageddon and Captain's Closet.

They shifted the focus back to space ships and other things in space... mainly because that's what the majority wanted... not that I personly wouldn't love walking in station with other people and all that... but the thing is there are more important things in eve to do first... when all that is done, then they can put more man power on it again

The Ambulation "Prototype" was apparently Demo code, so it wasn't in any way scale-able or releasable.

I remember a dev started thread asking for suggestions. lots of cool stuff... then they did an april fools space ponies dev blog and if anything people seemed more upset that they would consider such a feature a joke rather than plan on including it.

When walking in closet is optimized to the point people with computers made in the first decade of the 21st century can use it without suffering meltdowns, then maybe we can make the closet bigger and add dozens of players to the same environment. Until then I for one would probably cry if, after investing time and money into this game, were forced out because I refuse to upgrade my system and adapt to "spaceship barbies".

Ok so note to Devs: When upgrades for peoples computers are required to accommodate WiS, just make a note in the patch notes that it is for shader graphics for FiS and less people will complain Lol

Do you just make **** up on purpose?

It was for a different engine, they scrapped it because World of Darkness (lol) was supposed to run on a new fancy engine, which can't handle two people in a room apparently (Incarna).

There was discussion a while back on why they scrapped something that was so complete looking in 2008. The general consensus was that the code used to make the ambulation demo was largely scrapped because it wasn't scalable (just like most major game tech demos don't really reflect what the end product will be, because the demo isn't built with the same tools that the game is).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY9H01upg00
though that video was uploaded in 2010, here's the same video with worse quality uploaded in '08:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeanIPs0yws

If Ambulation had gotten to this state with code that was written with an eye for scalability and release 3 years before Incarna, and 2 years after CCP acquired White Wolf, what possible reason would they have had to scrap it and start an entirely new engine? Thus the conclusion that that demo was not built with code designed for scalability or release.

You lose all credibility by doing anything to dubstep. Seriously, that stuff rots your brain.

As for WiS, I hope CCP is still trying to figure out the proper mechanics for allowing us to kill each other in station before opening the doors.

Yes it would be fun to gang up on players and rip the monocles from their heads.

What did ccp ever say was the point of WIS? Anyone have the direct ccp qoute as to what was the purpose of WIS?

I guess I never understood the reason to walk in a station.

Why does my Caldari CQ have such a tiny bed? I'm a god, I demand at least a Queen size, if not King! Is it because Caldari are so utilitarian? If that's the case then why do I have all this wasted floor space?! Do I line dance in my spare time?

It was something to do with black market trading or some such. The idea being that when you're out of your pod you're off the radar to the law. It would have had gambling and booster trade in it. At least that's what I heard.

there is alot of work going on right now with making whats in the game better that goes for0.0,Incarna,wormhole ECT.

CCP has stated that they want to implement a "Hostile environments" type situation to eve similar to the first few minutes of this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI53ydJaus8&feature=BFa&list=PLF614A7A6461E61E1

So station environments will be here within the next year then hostile environments some time after that.
