lol umad at wall-of-text?

nah, I was thinking of herding it into a plastic bag and floating away though.

lol gave me a good chuckle thinkin about that here at work. thanks for making my monday better :D

but yea im ecstatic about this mars rover thing. i cant believe how amazing it is that right now at this very moment there is a man made machine on another planet in our solar system. even though theres been this whole time other rovers n stuff going on but i really feel with this specific operation, alot of crucial info about mars will come into light.
i am truely happy to be in this moment of time and existence to experience real life space exploration.

i want to take this time to honor those in the past who have made this possible, especially carl sagan with his passion of the universe and existence of consciousness he would be jumping up and down with joy if he were here to see this happen

Mars = dead planet, I don't understand the draw. The moon has far more importance towards the fulfillment of our needs (eg energy, platform to space etc.). I do like robotics though, so you bet I'll be monitoring this just like last time.

Moon has no atmosphere, makes mars way cooler. Also we've already gone to the moon (allegedly)Straight

we've been to the mmon. If anything peopel say we faked the 1st one since we got the way to the moon before that and failed the land and were scared of lossing the russians.

What people forget is the next 20 missions to the moon. We made going to the moon boring after a while.

eh no. Yes we went of course, but most of the moon remains unexplored and for the past 30 years untouched. I see no H3 mining units, I see no commercial transport platforms, I see no deep space exploration bases. Mars is unrealistic, and a radioactive death trap to boot.

It comes down to the possibility of Mars having harbored life in the past. Also certain theoretical similarities with earths development. There is still a general mindset that life exists only here, if hard evidence was found, perception of our place in cosmos would expand.

I don't understand, what good is proving or disproving some social question as to origins or whatnot while the Earth starves of energy? I take the position that the well being of the peoples of the Earth is far more significant to any idea proven or disproven regarding origins or what have you.

As for the moon just being a dirt clod or whatever (as another poster mentioned), sadly that is about the extent of the majority in their understanding of astronomy. The moon is a rich resource for energy, a living chemical repository. Abundant in H3, which is something that we are running out of here on Earth by it's limited resource. We need more H3, desperately!, not for some social experiment, but for the betterment of the human race.

But we are talking NASA, and the big money hole it makes for, good for politicians, good for TV ratings, while the world remains generally in the dark. http://news.discovery.com/space/this-moon-was-made-for-mining-helium-3.html

You can take whatever position you like and those involved in space exploration take theirs and they are the ones funded. This betterment of humanity thing is very unrealistic unfortunately, were still competitive chimps fighting over fruit trees, so good luck with that. Btw NASA is hardly a money whole, this mission cost just a bit more then a single stealth bomber or 8 bucks per person. I can pass on 8 bucks to see if there was possibility of life in our solar system outside of the earth. Why? Because I find it very interesting, in fact I find humanity rather dull and petty, so to me this is an outlet for something grander then our silly earthly bickering.

Where as I enjoy a good debate, the bottom line is, we have very little understanding of the Martian Surface, Geology, and "Deep History" (I.E. Fossileized remains, Chemical History, or Deep Core lifespan). In great contrast, the Moon is a greatly reflected compsite of earth materials, that has Never Supported Life. Though the Mineing of Helium3 from the moon would infact help life on earth, it is cost prohibitive to do so, as the money/energy produced from it, would be less then the cost to gather then transport it home.

I look forward to further exploration of the Lunar Surface, and eventually seeing a Mineing Outpost established. But untill the economics allow it, we have very limited resources, and will continue to focus on gathering new, vital, and perhaps history changeing data. Though the lunar surface could serve as a great "launch-pad" for travel to more distant places, once again the cost to transport people, equipment, and the "deep space" crafts to the moon out weigh the cost of a traditional earth based launch.

So, UNTILL, WE as a Race can stop squabbleing over where a line is drawn on map to determin who is in charge of what. Untill BIG Business stops fleecing the populas, and we all combine our resources, money, knowledge, and will power, we are doomed to be stuck here wallowing in this filth that we produce.

Greed has been the root of the majority of conflict since man-kind has walked the surface of this humble rock we call home. If we dont stop the polution, overpopulation, and stripping of natural resources, our home will continue to circle the drain. We as the next generation to control what is refered to a society, can make a differance, if we look beyond our petty differances, squash the greed, and put an end to conflict over what should be considered basic human rights.

Treat each other fairly, work with one another, and do something that makes our world a better place.
