[Technically, that is incorrect. Missiles do not quite fly their true calculated distance like that, requiring some acceleration time and getting on track, in addition to the fact that as the target moves, while not neccessarily getting any farther, it increases the potential distance the missiles have to travel, thus, if you have 85km range on your missiles, and are firing at a vagabond circling you at say, 75km, it's perfectly reasonable to expect your missiles not to travel far enough to even hit.

7/10 Trolling attempt, hurt by lack of real knowledge about the mechanics.
The attempt is good... this is exactly how the "max range" is calculated (even though the range is a little bit less because of accleration) Smile

Are you saying the actual max range is slightly shorter than the max range you will be/are giving? Could you correct this so that it is either: perfect, or a slight underestimate?

It's much better for someone to find out by accident that their missiles are a little better than expected, than to find out they are a bit worse than expected.

At first I thought this was a regular troll.. then I noticed it was a Tom Gerard thread. I just hope him and james 315 don't get together... Can you imagine the new level of troll their children would bring.

I plan to invade null-sec with my newly acquired missile knowledge , but sshhht, don't tell

Reopen the EVE gate so we can invade Serenity. Goons can go first.

Clearly the solution is to only offer this feature to players who have completed a Calculus exam in game.

I too am sad about this.

In todays economy everyone is doing it hard, when someone loses a job, it effects whole families, families that need to put food on the table, and give kids lunch money, was anybody thinking about that ?

Wont somebody think of the calculator makers !!!

Don't worry about the calculator manufacturers. The newly placed market info on the UI windows is so erroneous, that you need two calculators to get it right...

it's actully pretty cool that you can outrun a missle by flying away from them in a fast ship, And you can even do so by running closer to the enemy, if you angle right. ,manual flying ftw

I'll step up and admit that I am guilty of implementing this change that might affect calculator makers all over. Oops

Incidentally, I am a big fan of calculators, especially the EVE one and I regularly fight off people that want it to die and fix it when it needs some love. So I sincerely hope that it won't ruin the lives of calculator makers, I kind of like my life.

Of course there is a silicon Heaven.

Do strippers go to silicon heaven too? That might be fun, a heaven populated with calculators and strippers...

Silicone and silicon are not the same thing.

I shall miss the days when the simple question "how far do these missiles go?" would result in an mini maths lesson and a puzzled look.

It set the scene well for the rest of the UI interactions to come.

In hindsight my post should have had more psssshhhh

The game is officially ruined FOREVER, finding missile range was previously rather mundane twelve step process that extended gameplay, and instilled the excitement of properly filing a Federal IT-0140ez form. But that wasn't good enough for them, they took it too far we may now simply mouse over the module in question.

Now newbie pilots will be murdering players with 100m skill points left and right because CCP is catering to the NEW players, when will this money driven madness end?

New Tool tips for missiles:

Previously required a stunningly simple twelve (12) step process, general understanding game mechanics, and a sense of familiarity with the UI. This procedure was EASILY explained in a forty-five (45) minute long E-UNI class, what is E-UNI going to do now teach them to boil eggs?

1) Open Ship fittings.
2) Right Click on module
3) Show info
4) Select Attributes Tab
5) Scroll down to stats
6) Open calculator
7) Copy index for Maximum flight time
8) Paste into calculator
9) Press multiply
10) Copy Flight Velocity
11) Paste into calculator
12) Press Enter

Missiles are fiddly things. With torps that are "38km" range, a battleship at 32km ish will not be hit. As a rat it moves at 160m/s though. Between that and acceleration time it's enough. Of course it's better to just get in their face (since torps are "close rage" after all).

Noone plays forever, they need new players to keep server alive. Live server > your continued sense of superiority.
