If CCP make Mining Mini Game - Why not give it real world use.

I was listening and rewatching a few clips talking about the so called "next" version of mining, using mini games to give a bonus in some way and that got me thinking.

Whatever the details of the mini games why not have them have real world use. One of the problems with mining is the bot issue exactly the opposite that some other cloud sourcing issues have to deal with.

For example take this site https://www.zooniverse.org/. Here they are using individuals to crowd source everything from studying the moon, to finding planets around distant stars. What if there was a way to use that raw data and the processing of it within Eve to give a result, using real people to find the real answers to real question.

It might take a little more work then a simple solution, but think of the positive aspects.

  • Since these are problems that pure computing can not solve yet, you have anti bot built in.
  • On the negative side for EVE if the bot writers can write something to automate the solving, well the people trying to solve the problem would love it. So while negative for EVE that is a huge plus for the human race.
  • The publicity factor would be massive. The media would love it.
  • It would with the tag line "Eve is Real" nicely
  • And I am sure once you have done it for one problem, encoding a new problem would be less of an issue

Ok there is a major if here, if you can translate a problem into a minigame that does relate to the real problem directly and not break the emergence of eve. I am sure there are a huge number of other issue.... but just think of it. EVE IS REAL, and making a REAL world difference ?

CCP has stated they will handle the bot issue, and we should not focus on it.

I take it to mean we should not make ideas centered on the issue, or change them to address it.

I think you have good intentions, but I am not sure how that idea would make game play more fun.

Just a quick correction. This is NOT an anti bot mechanism, but instead a way of using the EVE player bases to tackle real world problems.

I am just thinking that the raw data used for the mini game for mining could be real world data which means that solving in the game solve the real world problem.

The biggest thing you're missing is that miners don't want to have to give constant input to mine. Most miners just want to semi-AFK and mine while they do other stuff. Forcing miners to provide input like that might get rid of some bots, but it would also get rid of a LOT of real human miners, which would proceed to tank the mineral market HARD.

It just doesn't add anything to the game and the problem it creates is bigger than anything that it solves.

My problem with mini-games is they become boring eventually as well - (please no more Mario Brothers).... at least with the current system I can open a browser and read, do my PI or do something else constructive while mining.

  - remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not  "afk" cloaking -

I don't like the idea of a mining mini game boosting your mining...that's means I can no longer mine on eve and get my battle field 3 on...or even get some dust 514 in there...

Sigh.......Ok first of all this is not a suggest that minigames be added. This is a thought with regards to CCP stated they are looking at adding mining games.

From my understanding what CCP were saying is that you could still mine the old way, but the "new" minigame way might give you a bonus either quantity or quality. So if, like me, you want to sit mining while watching TV or reading fine. I also agree that minigame can get boring as well.

However my point is if minigame for mining comes in, CCP could create something that makes use of a real world problem and not just cause player to have to put in effort with no real outcome other then a in game bonus.

If, and it is a big if, CCP do want to bring in a minigame, then why not add some positive PR for EVE by making use of the time players are going to spend playing it to do something different. Would you rather play a minigame or play a minigame that also happens to find life around another star ?

I like the idea as long as it is not requirement to mine, but just a way to get some small (say 5-10% bonus) to either quality or quantity mined. So if I have nothing better to do I can boost my output by doing something useful, but if I’m afk mining (as I am most of the time) I still don’t lose any output compared to current system.
