Upgrade from the CNR?

What would be an acceptable upgrade form the CNR for level 4 missions? I have been using it for a pretty long time and looking to move up to something that can kill a bit faster. Although i do love the CNR's range.

I could go back and kill sanshas with a nightmare but currently i mission mainly against guristas so im not positive what my best option would be. I hear a lot about the golem some good and some bad. Mainly its a slowboat with well a small range.

Is there a general agreement on what is best? im looking for a way to basically clear the entire mission as quickly as possible no blitzing or i would just use a tengu.

I agree with the Tengu, can tank any level 4 mission easy and give out up to 700+ DPS at 70km, if you don't want to train for the Tengu then maybe the Golem, you will spend up to 2 bill on either Tengu or Golem for a good tank/dps to run missions fastest plus T3 and Marauders deserve that much spent on them :)

I lost my Tengu through a combination of beer and boredom, get a turret ship and do something interesting.

Unfortunately, you have reached the end of the "cruise missile" upgrade chain with the CNR.

Aside from the Machariel and the Tengu, you may want to consider a Vargur (slightly lower dps than the machariel, but longer range and better tank, and easier on the ammo supply), a Kronos or a Vindicator.

Agreed, Tengu is fun for a while, but then the boredom sinks in.
You have 170m sig, omni-tank around 400, permaboosting AB ~600m/s fully cap stable and crap missiles up to 100km.
Even sitting still its hard to screw things up, i haven't flown a ship in Eve aside Tengu that made me fall asleep while playing. Its mindbogglingly boring after a while. Well fitted with implants, CN BCU and fury ammo, you can push close to 800 dps,
T1 ammo brings you down to 600dps.

After Tengu, Mach was a refreshment, instapop frigs from 74km, 2-3 hit a BC, 3 sec RoF, fast and intimidating looking behemot.
Even with a cheap crapfit you can hit 1000+ DPS and 350 omnitank. And an insane ammo dispenser. Faction ammo for fun, since Mach does wonders even with T1 ammo.
Just charge at BS and kill frigs and C+BC till ya run out of crosses while getting close, then have fun with them.

Vargur is uglier, better tank, better tracking, longer range, spends less ammo. Almost completely useless against guristas since they can permajam like there is no tomorrow. Still, slower to fly and align, made for salvage on the fly, but salvage is crappy now so there goes that option. Dps around 950 but since its only 4 guns you can use faction ammo and jump to ~1100dps, 1300 with T2 hail.

Golem, with cruises its worse than CNR, with torpedos its 2-3 TP juggle all the time to apply dmg and then you get the range issues. Sensors still crap as any marauder really. Dont know average torp DPS without EFT.

As people said, go for Tengu for fun and skill Mach for awesomeness.

Guns or bust. But if you have to use missiles, get a CNR and ignore the rest. Tengus are not better than CNRs.

Golem. Slow go gate to gate destroying and salvaging everything . The salvaging part keeps your eyes more open. Torps can shoot frigates with the ship bonus

vindicator! very tight fit. shield fits look pretty good too. mach is nice and all but I'd rather have optimal for guristas.

Vargur or Machariel - only this 2 options for faster mission running than RNI (don't bother Tengu, it's slower in 90% missions than RNI, and Golem it's crap with range and so much target painters hell)

If you're flying in Amarr space, look into the Nightmare.
