Amen to that.

I know a bunch of console shooter nuts who are thinking about giving DUSt a try just because it offers something different than buy game - complete game in 5-6 hours - play multiplayer for a while- buy DLC - complete DLC in 4-5 hours - play multiplayer until sequal is released.

Yea, they are giving it a try... no doubt about that.. the question is: Will that be enough for DUST to succeed along CCPs businessplan? I can't tell yet, and neither can you... but what I can tell is this: Should it fail, EVE will suffer the consequences.

I think everyone realises that but i prefer to be optimistic about what I'm hearing and so far what im hearing sounds like pretty much every other game at the developement stage DUST is at. Not everything is in yet and not everything is optimised but the core mechanics are solid and they have a good base to work from.

Another thing to bear in mind is the good reception the ideas behind DUST have been getting from the PS3 community. Now they know nothing about CCP and nothing about EVE but in this case I think their opinions are just as important when it comes to judging success, after all they will be the primary buyers of this game and the ones who determine wether or not CCP can sell to an audience outside of EVE.

Tricky situation regarding their desire to not cannibalize their own market on PC, and going the route of PS3, yet also making the game robust and "complex".

I won't say much, but grant the OP is correct in some way, especially the attention-span of the average console shooter. They want to jump in and play. Though, DUST 514 has a lot of potential and I will withhold judgment.

It could be that most consolers have never played something like this with complexity, and will embrace it. The cost of entry is 0 dollars, so why not? I hope for it's success.... I want to see EVE integrated with DUST and I want that feature to blow up and be amazing.

The big thing with console games is that people hate spending 60$ on them, so what is CCP's answer to this? Charge them less more often cause as we all saw with call of duty elite charging people more to play a new version of an old game goes over with fans so well. Also yeah the console crowd wants there dead bodies now, not in 15 mins or 3 days when they have the skills necessary to not die instantly, they want them right ******* now. Good luck selling a hurry up and wait game to the I WANT IT NOW console crowd.

Just out of curiosity when this all fails miserably do you guys have a back up plan on how to remove this from the game after the console population drops to a few dozen people? Cause it would be too funny to have all of these integration features added to the game just to have them sit there with no use because there is no one playing the console game.

And finally, when was the last time besides a Halo game where the population on a console FPS stayed above a few hundred thousand players for more than 1 year?

Look, guys. The game is still in very early development. If you've followed *any* game in beta, most of them aren't actually really fun until very soon before release, when the final polish is applied and balance is finally hammered out, bugs fixed, etc. I think it has issues, but it's hard to judge it accurately when it still has a very long time until it's released.

IMO DUST514 should be a lot more like WoT or MWO than first person shooter.

Totally agree on this, just like we dont have player piloted fighters (FPS equivalent of EVE), we shouldnt have combat at the footsoldier level. In a time of plasma cannons, hiding behind a rock is immersion breaking.

Im hoping most combat on the field will be vehicular and only fighting in the buildings will be done by infantry.

Right, but you have the console crowd to think about to them an expansion is just DLC, not a new game, the console crowd has been trained to expect new games. good luck trying to sell them the same base game and just expanding it with DLC. The only game that ever did that successfully was the oblivion and fall out series and CCP is so far from Bethesda on the skill scale its not even funny.

IF dust was ever released on PC I would probubly buy it. However I am NOT purchasing a fail PS3 which is already how many years old? Which will be outdated very soon by a new gen of consoles, jsut for 1 game, which lets be honest, if its graphics are designed around a out dated console will be poor at best

You won't spend $300 bucks on a PS3 but you will spend how many thousand on a PC? Sorry, but your argument makes absolutely no sense. What you're doing is equating the cost of one game which is FREE with the entire cost of a console which - just like your PC - can play hundreds of games other than DUST.

Also, you might want to check just how many PS3 have been sold (hint: it's a ******* big number)

If you think computers that are capable of running current generation games at highest settings cost thousands, I've got some news for you.

In that case maybe Dust will be worth it in 5 years or so, after it gets seasoned a while.

If critical thinking stops a play from playing a game then they should'nt play the game.
