But yeah, I think it'll have some merit on the PS3, being free and all there. Hard to beat as far as not paying to get into the game while the others you mentioned have an initial price tag.

I think one of the CSM's said that they wouldn't play it ... only if it was made available on the PC, and even that was a maybe.

So....you'll never by any of the current gen consoles? They were all released at around the same time so they're all equally old/terrible.

Also, you should get a web browser with spell check. Had to go through your post and fix spelling errors.


EDIT: This will hopefully grab the attention of the PS3 players who want a challenge and not just mindless rounds of CoD.

The problem is that in the present day market, with so many well established competitors with well polished games, its very difficult on new releases; there are always going to be bugs in early releases of games especially MMOs. People coming from existing MMOs trying these games out seem to be inevitably disappointed because of this and drift back to the games they were accustomed to. This is probably something to do with why NO new MMO has been successful for a very long time. Many have tried, they all failed.

Yes, the target audience is console FPS gamers. Why is this even a question? It's been broadcast in mile-high neon letters since the game was first announced. The reason has also been given, and the foundations of your dismissal are definitely showing your dogmatic ignorance.

  • There are EVE players who also play console FPS games. (These are not the core demographic, but they disprove your generalization that console players couldn't care about EVE)

  • There are console FPS players who are interested in EVE but don't want to play it. (I have a feeling you're lazily bunching these with "don't care about EVE", which is wrong)

  • There are console FPS players who don't just drop their game and jump on the next sequel - because they don't want to or can't afford it. (Games like Battlefield and CoD are actually damned expensive, and hammer you with DLC every three to six months)

  • There are console FPS players who would stick to a single game if the developers and publishers would actually support them. (The sheer success of DLC in the above-mentioned games makes it clear that console gamers can actually stick with a title for a long while provided there's continued support and development. However, for the publisher it's much easier and rewarding to market new games - even if they are exactly the same... )

  • There are console FPS players who are getting tired of the constant dumbing down of their genre and are clamoring for a deep hardcore experience.


I'm sure you're also one of those people who smirk knowingly when people point out that the new CoD games are exactly the same, just with new maps, and yet they still sell well (I know I do Smile). What does that tell you? It means that players would much rather stick to what they know: the same game. Halo doesn't even enter into this discussion, because that's an XBOX game, but those games are also very close to each other in terms of gameplay and have a very dedicated player-base.

So it actually seems like the idea that console FPS gamers have the attention span of chipmunks and dive on the first new title that comes out is drivel. What is actually going on is that players stick with the game series that they are used to. Console players are also more hard-core than people give them credit for. They grind stats like crazy, they find the cheesiest and most effective weapons and kits...

Now imagine that there was a company that came out and said "Hey, we're gonna make a game that's free and we're never gonna stop developing it. We're gonna have massive content patches every three or six months that give you new planets and game types and mechs and arenas and hordes! There's gonna be so much kit and guns and vehicles to play with and exploit that you'll soil yourself! Every match will have an impact on a greater world, and we will value and reward you for being our customer."

Don't you think that might be a little more interesting than you give it creditt?

The open beta for Diablo 3 started...wait for it...A FEW MONTHS BEFORE RELEASE. You just proved my point. Also, if you look at Diablo 3's success(or lack theirof), you realize that they designed the game around level 1-13 to build hype, only to leave their Hell and forward endgame content in the shitter, which resulted in the game failing on almost every level. They designed it using the minecraft design curve, and they paid for it dearly.

I know a bunch of console shooter nuts who are thinking about giving DUSt a try just because it offers something different than buy game - complete game in 5-6 hours - play multiplayer for a while- buy DLC - complete DLC in 4-5 hours - play multiplayer until sequal is released.

You all mostly fail to see another issue here too...

And that is failure by funds.

DUST514 will be free to play right? so, it's only source of income will be through the aurum store in the DUST514 market place, and that ladies and gentleman will be a failure.

Who on earth will pay microtransactions on a console for a new gun? when they can just load up COD.

Yea, they are giving it a try... no doubt about that.. the question is: Will that be enough for DUST to succeed along CCPs businessplan? I can't tell yet, and neither can you... but what I can tell is this: Should it fail, EVE will suffer the consequences.

I am enjoying it and also realize it is a Beta. I think it will be great for Eve and no other game offers its depth and conectivity to another MMO like Dust.

The only concern I have is the CSM notes seem on the fence if Dusters will be in Eve corps at launch. I think it would be a failure in that aspect if they do not make them one in the same in the beginning because they will not be building a bond with Eve players on the offset.

Constant development, updates and balancing will be a big win for Dust. But not too much balancing i hope. I don't want CCP changing the game to make it easier for noobs. I want the same harsh environment that forces new players to htfu, adapt and (most importantly) work together to succeed. I'm not saying i only want it to be for EVE players, i want it to be for console players who look for a challenging and demanding game.

I will probably prefer it to CoD.
It wont have the same spawning issues (instead, it has spawn camping);
The player base should get better after the noobs get bored or rage quit;
Corporations and other social networks might encourage teamwork and leadership structures;
Success and defeat affect a greater universe, adding purpose.
Assets have value and each loss is felt (pls remove free vehicles)
There are no death streaks rewarding noobery
Mouse and KB support \o/

From what ive played on the Beta myself, it doesn't have the fast paced movement of CoD (never liked low gravity games); theres a fair bit of lag and bugs (beta) and a good deal of balancing needs to be done. Besides that its great fun.

As far as graphics go, i don't really care if i'm fighting on a beautiful landscape or lego blocks.
