Hulk mining yield vs Covetor

Right now for a Pilot with Exhumers 4 the Covetor gets +20% yield and the Hulk gets +28.8% which means the Hulk gets 7% higher yield than the Covetor at this skill level. Seems a bit small considering the cost difference between the ships, maybe the Hulk should get the same +4% yield per Mining Barge skill that the Covetor gets.

The difference is even smaller for Ice Harvesting since the Hulk gets no bonus to Ice Harvesting for the Mining Barge skill.

Overall it seems that the Hulk should get at least the same bonuses as the Covetor for the Mining Barge skill, that way it is an upgrade even at Exhumers skill level 1. I think Tech 2 ships generally operate this way?

No, they don't, it varies ship to ship. Also most t2 bonuses at lvl 4 t2 skill only give a similar return, not sure why hulk should be different. Eve is all about diminishing returns of skill time, it keeps the game balanced.

Even if you're right, it won't make much sense to use a Hulk over a Covetor for Ice Harvesting even (arguably) at Exhumers 5. Investing an extra 150M+ for... 4% better yield at Exhumers 5? I'm not sure it will be worth it.

EVE has always been about paying through the nose for tiny improvements.

Seems to be fine as is.

no he's right. The price of tech should be brought down, or the gap should be widened in some way. Or else no one will fly the hulk anymore, for a 7% increase. it's just not worth it.

overall love the changes though

You underestimate miners' greed and willingness to ignore cost/benefit ratios.

LOL... don't pigeon hole people... I just told all my miners to basically get read to use T2 fitted Covetors in fleet and forget anything else for the time being until the final patch... and after that the Cov and the Ret are pob going to be the mainstay of profit miners - ganking v just doing up a batch of them with BPCs is cheap.. and effective. Ganking becomes just a cost of doing business then and the Cov will do fine with HS rats.

I think the "shiny" ship will end up being the Mack, but given the ratio of yield and tank and cost - I think T1 is going to be the HS mainstay of most "corp" mining.. solo's will use the above Mack and that will rather be that... the cost of having a few T2 hulls maxed out doesn't seem to cut the mustard anymore... stacks of "cheap" ships are going to be the rule for even mining... get ganked just grab another... and nicely T1 is easy to solo produce if you have the minerals on hand... meh, it's the way of thing...

The one way comes to drive out the ways of the many... ship pez dispensers FTW

ccp's answer to suicide ganking; use more gank vulnerable ships that cost pocket change to replace.

it's different, i'll give them that.
