Ok just played the DUST 514 BETA, and my first impressions are not good.

I want to make clear that yes this is BETA and a lot of work is still being done but i feel no matter how much work they put in, it won't improve the game in the long run.

Why you ask? well remember a game called command and conquer Renegade? if not heres a link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNuO0J7TRMI its almost exactly the same as DUST 514 and guess what Renegade X is coming out soon http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/27/candc-renegade-remake-renegade-x-black-dawn-deploys-tomorrow/ and here is a video of renegade x, looks familiar? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNpPQN758uc

I would also like to point out that this game DUST514 is more aimed for pc players not console players, console players need instant attention satisfaction point and shoot. Not all this setting up etc hence why redalert failed on console.

The graphics are god awefull and its just confusing, 3rd person while in the station and 1st person on the ground?

I hope i am wrong and it succeeeds, if not then it's going to drag EvE down big!

Red Alert failed on console? Hmm Ive had every one. (ignoring the common fact about console rts games) and its sad about DUST. I have no interest in repairing my PS3, but DUST may have made me think about it seeing how much I like EVE.

I'm only a EVE player by a few months but I have to agree with the OP. However!

Xbox 360 had a game called Chromehounds, which was a launch title that involved micro transactions (the default live subscription as well), robotic tactical warfare and lots of fitting and preparation. It ended up obtaining a die hard player base and lasted for years before SEGA finally turned the servers off.

You never know, PS3 has tons of over-entitled college/university students as it's main player base. They should feel the call of a game that will "prove" they're smarter and more 'loldeep' than the average console gamer.

CCP can win this one, just need to play it carefully. Also I like Command and Conquer but I'm not going near that, 4 never happened. *rocks back and forth*

tl;dr: You may be pleasantly surprised, console gamers aren't as finicky as the common EVE player.

Chromehounds to this day is by far one of the top 3 online console games ever. I could slap everyone at From Software and SEGA for turning off those servers. Id still play it now.

You are underestimating the intellectual level of the console players.

Just like EVE Online, there will be those who will engage in a more complicated game than your so-called simple straight-shooter games.

You are writing on a wrong forum. You are basing the general populous to your 12 year old brother. There is no logic to your opinion. Everything is wrong with your thread.

CCP have said they are launching Dust on PS3.

I bolded the important word there.

I want DUST to do extremely well, I want anything CCP ever does to do great...but what happens if DUST ends up being a failure? Would it bring EVE down with it? I don't think I could handle that...lol.

I hear breaking CCP's NDA is all fun and games and they never ever ban accounts over it.

If I wasn't under the same NDA I'd counter your lame rant.

I am thinking it is not worth the purchase of PS3 just to play dust.
I have seen other reviews and the common theme is it is not worth it.
Maybe try it out first on someone elses PS3 before you sink cash into a ps3.

What I am trying to say is Dust 514 is not a destination game.
It is not good enough to warrant the purchase of a PS3 if you do not already own one.
So sorry Sony but it ain't happening.

I would wait for a year before even considering buying an console game machine, if even that. Better to see if dusties stick around first.

I think making FPS game to company such a long term game as EVE was a bad choice, RTS would be better

Deep down I think most gamers knew dust wasn't going to be able to compete with other consol shooters.

Hmmm yeah an RTS would have been cool actually...

Dust would have been beter as a 3rd person shooter IMO.

Friend of mine is trying it out.

He says its fun enough when he has nothing else to do. He might play it when it comes out fully. Might buy me a PS3 so we can both play it... I won't complain.

His biggest issue is simply the graphics. He feels in a lot of areas they are lower than modern console shooters.

He does however like the setup. Of course, he also takes about an hour to set up a character for MP of War for Cybertron.

I don't know how Dust will do. I do know that I prefer EVE.

Chromehounds was an awesome game but it had major connection problems.

Eventually sega shut the servers down due to a lack of players. Could this happen to dust?

I still think CCP shows vision and a conciderable ammount of balls with this project... BUT I don't think it will fly.

Why? Well first off, I think CCP doesn't really know the audience they are aiming for... Is it EVE players? I don't think so, judging by myself, I play EVE because it is the only game if it's breed. I don't care to play another game in it's universe, especially not an FPS... besides that, I only own an old X360 and no PS3 and I suck a controller shooting.^^

So, EVE players aside, what else could be the target audience? Console FPS players? I think they are too fickle a bunch to count on for anything... and I don't think they care for EVE much... why should they? It's just another shooter setting to them, like Halo, Gears of War, etc.

So, the question is: Who will play it in the end? And for how long? And most importantly, will that audience warrent the production affort that CCP put into that game...

Look, guys. The game is still in very early development. If you've followed *any* game in beta, most of them aren't actually really fun until very soon before release, when the final polish is applied and balance is finally hammered out, bugs fixed, etc. I think it has issues, but it's hard to judge it accurately when it still has a very long time until it's released.
