Unique aspects of (serious) armor tanking

Hi,

I'm aware that shield tanking is a very viable (even a better) option for rapid small gang and solo PvP. Kiting, skirmish and hit&run tactics. But all I need here is a moderate shield buffer. All factions can do this. Even Amarr on some ships.

My question is about situations when it comes to serious tanking. That means logistics, carriers and gang links. Especially the utilization of carriers leads to much more static fighting - which nullifies one of the biggest disadvantage armor tanking has. But ofc serious shield tanking can be done very viable as well.

But what can an armor tank do what a shield tank cannot or worse? What are unique aspects of armor tanking? My own thoughts:

- full tank + full tackle
- full tank + utility (ewar, cap, sensors, ...)
- buffer tanking (due to 1600mm plates + slaves)
- sig tanking
- not sure here: brawling

Anything else? Or anything wrong?

Sums it up pretty much. If you want to put it in one generalized sentence, you trade speed and gank from shield tankers versus mid slot utility,(usually) more cap and buffer.

Don't forget signature bloat.

Barring ships like sleipnirs and cleverly flown/fitted cyclones. Armor tankers tend to make better brawlers as a collective whole.

That and they can fit monstrous buffer tanks that are not dependent on cap to run, and sacrifice none of their mid slots to do so. So in most cases, being neuted out means nothing in terms of tank. It just means your guns aren't firing until your logi gets to you or your cap booster cycles.

Armor tanking gets the Archon which is infinitely better than the Chimera/Nidhoggur last time I looked.

That unfortunately you can't overheat.

Guns make the news. Science doesn't.

Where armor tank shines, is BS fleets that want sheer numbers of HP. The BS are slow anyway, it's not like an Abby or Geddon are known for kiteing ability. Typhoons, Mega's, Domi's, all these can be plated to hell and add massive HP to the overall fleet.

These however do not
Syg tank
Kite
Run away

Brawling is the only option for them. Especially Blaster fit hulls.
