So Im going to buy a plex for a cash infusion. Is it just as simple as purchase online, its credited, sell in game?

Yeah pretty much. Buy it from CCP nobody else, then have it redeemed into whichever character you choose. Once redeemed look in that characters hanger.

OK, why am I never around when awesome happens!?! Well I have it now, so Ill redeem when I get home. Does it go to the station that you are at when you login, or does it go to your home station?

Remember a plex can be used from anywhere in the universe even from a WH so there's no need ever to travel to a plex in order to use it.
Also never ever redeem a plex until you're inside a station where you are going to trade it.

It goes to station where you are docked. So if you are going to sell it for ISK, travel first to station where you can sell it on market, and only then redeem the PLEX.

Also you can redeem it ingame not just in login screen (ESC-menu -> "redeem" button at bottom)

(Transporting PLEX in fast frigate is quite safe in highsec, done that myself several times. But why risk it when you can just redeem it at right station.)

Because I bought a cheap PLEX at station A and I want to sell it for more at station B. Blink

You can return a PLEX to the "redeem items" window and redeem it again, so there's really no reason to ever have one in your cargo.

That can't be used to move PLEX around. When you un-redeem it, it will be fixed to the current station and can't be redeemed anywhere else - exactly to avoid this being used as safe transporting.

Only if you have never redeemed that PLEX before, can you redeem it anywhere you want.
