In a game in which 50% of characters seen are alts of an unknown main, "name and reputation" in actuality mean very little. Every alliance is full of spies. Hi sec PvP corps full of griefer alts from players for which one will never know their actual main. The core mechanics of the game insure that character deception is built into the game. Name means zilch 99.9% of the time.

Those that would try to change there name for "deception" would be seen in the "Alias" option. (Could also appear in the character search as well). The most notorious folks have their alts known already even today anyway. Not a valid argument against the option.

When a person wants a name change it means they did not like it when they started their char.

That is a concept I really do not understand. Why use a name your unhappy with. Why create it anyway?

Most of the people asking for this is relatively new players.

Here's the solution :


Biomass your character , create an alt with the name your biomassed character had.Request from CCP to restore your biomassed character , wich they will do IF they are in a good mood.

So now your character is back but his name is taken so you will be named caldari citizen 5261612626222 untill you request a name change once you know wich one you'd like.

Offcourse there is a chance CCP ain't in a good mood and you just biomassed a high SP char , but hey at least you tried right?

I talk to Kurator regularly on comms as he's in Test Friends Please Ignore. There was a point when he came back to Eve and had dozens of people convoing him telling him that he was primary. Now he still gets called primary a lot when out on fleets.

It's possible for a name to become a burden through no fault of the player.

Also... titan pilots who's name begins with 'A'... Not exactly ideal.

CCP could create a section in your employment history that lists all your former names. Problem solved.

Haha, who read the recent forum post about that guy "ChingChongWingWong" (or similar) who was recently discovered by CCP and had his name changed perminently to "Caldari Citizen 192847" (or similar)

Um... Some of this may be true, but others easily false. Simply code an ID number to a player. The ID and any past names would be included in full api info. Kill rights would also be linked to the ID, not the name as would killboard stats.

Scanning would still be possible if people weren't careful, but other aspects would not change.

And it's not like our current society prevents name changes.

Honestly, charge a plex per name change and help ccp out a little.

The only reason I want to change is because I have an EVE generated surname that isn't unique.

I have a friend who started this game with a kind of stupid name thinking he wouldn't like it since he has never really like MMOs so the name wouldn't matter. He then decided he loved it and now has two accounts, but he is forever stuck with that first unfortunate name choice....on comms as well as in game lol.

I support this because my name is ****.

Their is no good reason not to ad this, especially since I can already make a new alt. Make it so that If I do this their is an alias tab and everyone who has me added to contacts gets a notification.
