So EVE, why so hostile and angry?

Yea you should play Orbiter instead. That's like the only game about space that doesn't have weapons. Or wait for Hello Kitty Online Space Vegetarian Adventure.

These are sort of idiots you wanna avoid OP, they feel they are funny an attempt to put anyone down they can. Just treat them with contempt, I find it works well for me.

This is exactly the attitude I was talking about. I wasn't even talking about combat, I was just talking about general hostile negativity and this sort of ignorant comment is just what I'm talking about.

Because there are all these people who think EVE should be hello kitty online.

That's why I'm negative.

Because there are all these people who think all these people want EVE Online to be hello kitty online, when in reality, many of them just want a comprehensive gaming experience that does not favor one group over another.

I read somewhere the average age of an EVE player is 25 or something so why do they act like teenagers.

I'm on EVE and sometimes I feel like I'm on 4chan or Twitter.

OP asks why people are so hostile, and you tell him (1) that they are idiots, (2) that he should treat them with contempt (ie., be hostile to them), and (3) that this is how you approach the situation yourself. You've basically just admitted to being an idiot.

I cherish my mortal space foes like I cherish my cinnamon'd mochas. We shall duel with arty gank Thrashers at the belt of your choice. Be warned, I'm quick with the warp-to button when it comes to my pod, even while drunk.

Made me lol. People in Eve are mean because the game has real consequences. So a lot more is at stake than a simple repair bill. Your going to let how other people act, effect your game play experience? Hmm Okay. Eve is pretty big universe.

It's because people in general are ignorant and hostile, just because they're playing EVE doesn't make a difference.
As said before, most people are just idiots. In society in general, stupidity is rewarded and intelligence is punished.
Best thing you can do is not add to it and make it worse.

Conflict and loss. That is EVE, that is what drives most people. I find it invigorating, the constant clashing and head butting.

Everyone has their own tastes in EVE and coffee I guess. (I prefer tea, ohhhhhh shhhhhhhhhhhh-"

Also when I engage in actual combat I tend to taunt and rave until I get a fight and then say GF and joke with my victim or my recent murderer afterwards. Win or lose actual conflict is what keeps me playing EVE. As for the community, I dislike the whinging more than the constant negativity.

OP if I were you I'd look for a better group of people to hang out and talk with.

Gotta remember mate this generation have grown up without any repercussions to what they say an do. With social media protecting them from anything they say. So forums allow them to anonymously spew hate an teen angst at anyone they choose in complete safety. Where as in old days, you had to back up what you said because there was no anonymity of the internet. So today its all they know.

There was no anonymity on the internet back then? You had to back up what you said? Not on the internet I've been logging in to since 1995. I agree that lack of repercussions is what fuels this behaviour (I know it does for me, heh), but blaming the younguns of eve for it is nonsensical. Have you noticed how many older people play this game? Many of them behave the same frigging way.

This is good advice. But you should cut back on that internet psychologist thing you're apparently into. Guessing peoples real life attitudes, age, experience and success based on an online-game/online-game forum has never worked out well.

Sure it has! Everyone who isn't a compassionate, honorable, caring industrialist is obviously a 35-year-old, angry, pimple-faced virgin living in his mother's basement! It's common sense!
