Trolls on the forum

I've worked on several forums in the past, some very large ones, some small. You need to get a balance of trolls as forums can become uninteresting an stagnant without the odd troll. They get people's attention and make them come back. The balance of trolls has tipped over in this forum though and there are far far too many. There are methods to control it, although few/none appear to be in place on this forum.
To be fair though, the game itself is full of trolls. Local is just troll haven. So it stands to reason that the forums will be full of them.

with terrible grammar is mad at us.

U mad?

EDIT: And by "troll" I meant people who derail threads, insult or downplay people.
If someone asks a question, and a common troll shows up to do his duty WHILE ANSWERING THE QUESTION - it's ok. I have no problem with that.

But when people post just to simply insult others (which has become a habit 'round here) ...

See my point?

How do you tell the difference between a legitimate troll and a normal troll?

In my opinion, trolls filtrate the bad posts from the good posts.
Good posts rarely get trolled.

It's OP's fault for being bad at posting.

One lives under a pre built bridge, the other has to cry a river, build a bridge and get over it.

Destination SkillQueue:- It's like assuming the Lions will ignore you in the Savannah, if you're small, fat and look helpless.

Forum trolls are the worst.

I agree with the OP, forums need moderation. IMO temporary bans would help.
If you still don't get it just see how many answers to this topic are actually helpful... or even on-topic.

I have a suggestion for this. Make each account able to vote up or down on a post... any post that receives a net -5 score is defaulted as hidden (click to unhide). This would allow the community to dictate the direction of the forums.
Try that out for a bit.... obviously less important threads could easily be taken over by trolls... but more important ones would presumably receive enough traffic and interaction to keep important comments alive.

Yeah turning the forums into Reddit will help. We all know there are no trolls on Reddit.

One addition... Part of the moderation of my aforementioned plan would be the screening for activity that would disallow rapid disliking (and probably liking as well).
This would easily allow forum moderators to go through and start taking out forum posts that have been taken over by trolls... as well as possibly allowing them to do some sort of active automatic hidden for any confirmed troll for like 5 days...

And reddit isn't the only, nor the first community to do something like this. Similar measures are used in alot of user forums throughout the internet.

I think they should invent some form of ignore button and let the players decide for themselves.

Like the "Hide posts" button that appears when you click a player's name ?

The forum is a place for players to communicate with other players about various topics, right?
And it seems that the number of people simply trolling without any useful information has increased. It's come to the point where they continue harassing people until they hijack the thread or derail it from the initial problem/question/information.
This kind of kills the whole purpose of the forum, might as well shut it down.

We all know EVE, and we know how complex the game is. There is tons of stuff to learn and many of which is backed by tutorials and/or guides - but the little things are still a mystery to many a player.
I'm sure all of you reading this have at one point had to deal with these socially ******** jerks with damaged egos.

Something should be done against this kind of behavior.

And no doubt, there will be some lifeless jackass to go ahead and troll this thread.

And what? Let the trolls turn this epic game's forum into a steaming pile of horse ****?
Action needs to be taken and I fully support Rocky Deadshot's idea - worth a shot (at the very least).
