A Wardec, a Theft, and a Scam (Or, How I turned 50 million into 1.5 billion)

A few weeks ago, our corp collectively decided to take a short break from random wardecs. During that time, I decided to shoot some abandoned POS pinatas because I'd never done it before. Being new to solo structure grinding, I quickly learned that a large POS was too much headache for a solo Oracle, but that a medium was easy enough with two of them. It was my third wardec, though, that inadvertently turned into some real profit.

I started a wardec with an alt corp on a Saturday afternoon. The target was another True Sansha Medium with four advance mobile labs around it. Sunday morning I log in a scout to check on the POS to see if it's been fueled before I hopped my two Oracle pilots. Instead of fueling it, they were taking it down. The labs and meager defenses were gone, and the tower had 17 minutes left on its timer. There was a Sigil parked next to the tower, waiting it out. I logged in my main and my orca pilot. Jumping into my covert Loki, I got in position about 30km away from the Sigil. The Orca was in place at the nearest planet, aligned to the tower.

At the 20 second mark, I decloaked and hit the microwarp, burning straight at the sigil. A solid bump pushed him 10 km off the tower and the Orca started its warp, landing with 2 seconds left on the clock. The Sigil was getting turned around to burn back to the tower, but I easily scooped the tower into the orca. The 50 million isk wardec had just landed me a tower worth nearly 600 million isk.

Fast foward a few days, and we're in an alliance and back at war. Things were slow, and I was running my locator alt, making some extra isk selling services. I struck up a conversation with a player in Ikao who was asking questions about POS operations. A conversation in local turned into a private chat, and after thirty minutes he asked me to recommend a good POS setup. Suddenly, I had a brilliant idea that I just knew would fail.

I suggested he look at faction towers for their fitting benefits. Sure they were expensive, but in the long term worth it. I told him Dread Guristas was the best, and I happened to have a DG Medium tower in my Orca. I was planning to move it to Jita to sell for about 1.7 billion, but I'd sell it to him from 1.5 bil to save the trip. He agreed, and I made a contract for a True Sansha Medium Tower for 1.5 billion isk. He accepted!

A few minutes later, I got one last line in our convo:

Victim > Oh you son of a b*tch wtf is this

I was never able to get any further response out of him.

- Wardecced an out-of-fuel POS owner
- Stole the POS when they unanchored it before the war started
- Scammed a guy into buying it for a billion more than it's worth

Awesome : )

I have a lover, her name is EVE. I see her every night and all she asks in return is that I have a pilot's license.

I am not a scammer by any means, but I must say that was a great tactic on getting that tower while they were trying to take it down and I actually enjoyed they story. Pirate

I do wonder though, why do so many people not read contracts before accepting them, or maybe they do read them, but they dropped out of english class grade one? It just baffles me.

I don't understand why people fall for trade hub scams posted in local. In this case, I spent the time to gain his trust and he blindly accepted the contract without looking closely at it. I'd been a nice guy up to that point and he trusted me when he shouldn't have.

Age, lineage, dna / genes, brain development, country reside in, education, ability to read english, drugs, alcohol, fatigue and derp clicks will all play a part.

I sold two fitted Orca contracts lately with the orca being a blue print copy and not the ship - both customers had foreign language shizzle in bio's and sent mail that I am still attempting to decipher.

What Floppie did was nice as it adds a personal touch to the scam before you make bank. Earning trust on the internet is indeed something that can yield some nice returns.

But blindly accepting something from someone you have known for less than an hour is still not very bright. No matter who you are dealing with one should always read the fine print so to speak. You still get a kudos though Big smile
