I started doing lvl 4's about 3 months ago and lost a Mega and a Domi right off the bat! The key is to pay strict attention to the triggers and take time to study the mission before jumping into it. When I started I would just breeze through the mission requirements and then just dive right into it. If you pay attention to the comments others suggest(at the end of the mission guide) you shouldn't have any problems. I haven't even come close to losing a boat since preparing before I dive in.

Because of the drone damage amplifier my Alt has shield tanked his domi to excellent effect:

5 x 350mm II Railguns 1 x Drone link augmenter II

1 x XL C5L Emergency Shield overload
1 x Shield boost amplifier II
2 x Kinnetic Deflection field II
1 x Thermal Deflection field II

3 x Power Diagnostic II
3 x Drone Damage amplifier
1 x Co processor II

1 x Sentry damage Augmentor
1 x Capacitor control circuit

949 DPS with Garde II's and antimatter

So far I've only had to warp out on the damsel. After returning at range obliterated it no challenge.

Noir. and Noir Academy are recruiting apply at www.noirmercs.com I Noir Academy: 60 days old must be able to fly at least one tech II frigate. I Noir. Recruits: 4:1 k/d ratio and can fly tech II cruisers.

Further note: If you haven't guessed this from previous posts, you should probably consider your first ship in a new role (upgrading a size category, switching from turrets to gun, changing from active armor to passive shield tank, changing to a fit with a dramatic difference in speed or agility) to be something of a sacrificial lamb to the gods of screwing up. Because you're going to, ever time. Screw up, that is, not sacrifice a lamb, that would be kind of weird. Unless you're Minmatar or Ammatar, I guess, then carry on.

Anyhow, on topic: your first ship of a significantly new type is going to die to an even greater extent even than any ship you undock is gonna die. Hang onto some extra isk every time you jump into something you really haven't flown before.

You can kite with a BS.... you just have to fit it appropriately.... The new ASB's are great for shield-tanking, kiting, mission boats....

Most people use the domi as a permatanking dual-armor repper ship... but after 40 missions you soon appreciate more dps oriented and less tank oriented setups.

Good thought. Luckily, I kept my vexor intact as a fallback, but losing the battleship that quickly hurt the wallet more than expected. Guess I'll know to keep that in mind next time I switch ships.

A second repper for your domi is unnecessary. Don't get me wrong, I flew with a second repper for months...I only finally got rid of it when I needed the powergrid for large guns. A second repper is simply unecessary except for if you agro more than you need to at one time. Even if you do, web/scramble frigastes die in seconds to small drones, and you can just warp out. The primary problem with not using 2 reppers is that you often can't agro the entire pocket at once, so you have to be careful to make sure groups you aren't fighting yet don't target your drones.

Full cap stable with either guns or repper running, I have maxed out fitting and weapon skills though so your mileage may wary.
Most important thing is that navy repper there (100 more hp per cycle!).
