Initially I wanted my alt to be the industry character whereas my main is the combat character. Then I had an epiphany regarding how stupid and boring industry is so my alt fell to the wayside. I still train skills on him, but it's rather pointless.

My alt now serves as a neutral cloaky warp-to point when ganking in highsec, if I even bother to log in at all with him.

I canceled that account. There's just no point.

A very good question which got me thinking about alts in general. I haven't bothered setting up an alt yet, because I begrudge shim any skill points.

Things which might influence me to create an alt are:

Coming up with an awesome character name which I just have to use
A chance to redo all the tutorials to reinforce everything I've already forgotten
The ability to do a 'price check on aisle 9'
Being able to troll on the forums without significant recourse from players itching to issue a war dec
Having someone I trust who can keep all my ill gotten gains safe, so if I get suckered into one of the eleventy billion scams in game, there is less to lose.
