A question for my fellow maties

I be just starting out in my plundering ways I need a bit of help

As a missle chucker ive been leaning into a kestral as my first Pirate Ship

what would be a good fit for a newbie captian as myself?

Or am I selecting the wrong ship and need to get myself into another ship?

Thanks for all your help!

May your plunder be T3!
Yarrrr!

Just as a basic note, I'm interested in what people have to say about the Kestrel too; I've used it a few times and it seems a bit fragile for my tastes.

It's not a fantastic ship. There are some gimmicky fits for fighting other frigates, but generally you'll want to either use a Merlin on an Incursus at the moment (*sniff*, I remember the day when you were suppose to use Rifters). That said, you could always join up with some friends who learning the ways of the YARR with it and have some fun - that's the most important part of piracy, after all =D. Here's one of those "gimmicky" Kestrel fits I was talking about (thought the fitting might be too hard for a rookie):
Quote:

[Kestrel, Kite]
Damage Control II
Micro Auxiliary Power Core II

Limited 1MN MicroWarpdrive I
Faint Warp Disruptor I
Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction

Rocket Launcher II, Scourge Javelin Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Scourge Javelin Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Scourge Javelin Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Scourge Javelin Rocket

Small Rocket Fuel Cache Partition I

Small Rocket Fuel Cache Partition I

It's a kiting set up - you'll want to stay further than 13km away (basic overheated web range), but closer than 20km (your own point range). Unfortunately, you can change much on this ship if you can't fit, except maybe ditching the MSE and going with only the size of yours balls as a tank. Just switch that mid with any kind of utility - maybe a cap booster to make it easier to learn with that measly cap?

Quote:
[Kestrel, Kite Easier]
Damage Control II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II

Limited 1MN MicroWarpdrive I
Faint Warp Disruptor I
Small Capacitor Booster II, Cap Booster 200

Rocket Launcher II, Scourge Javelin Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Scourge Javelin Rocket

However, if you're just looking at Caldari ships - the Merlin is a fantastic little boat of violence with the latest ptach that buffed it (and always was, I flew Merlins before they were mainstream?). There are a couple of flavours to this sexy ship, but here are some of my favourites (if you have trouble fitting anything, hit me up ingame and we'll tailor it to your skill set):

Quote:
[Merlin, TANK! ASB]
Damage Control II
Tracking Enhancer II
Tracking Enhancer II

Medium Ancillary Shield Booster, Cap Booster 50
1MN Afterburner II
Faint Epsilon Warp Scrambler I
Medium Ancillary Shield Booster, Cap Booster 50

Light Electron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S
Light Electron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S
Light Electron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S

Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Small Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I

Run each shield booster independently. When one runs out of cap boosters, switch to the other. Only run both if you are in trouble.

Quote:
[Merlin, GANK!]
Damage Control II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II

Experimental 1MN Afterburner I
Faint Epsilon Warp Scrambler I
Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction
Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor I

Light Ion Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S
Light Ion Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S
Light Ion Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S

Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Small Ancillary Current Router I

This is fairly straight forward - just jump in and brawl!

Anyway, hope that helps. Feel free to talk to me ingame if you have an questions about the above or just piracy in general.

Why do I even have a signature these days?

Just suck it up and buy a Drake, then you too can be a faceless member of the masses :)

Scammers are currently selling killrights on this toon for up to 5mil, if you have paid for this service demand your money back at once.

Killing me should be for free.
