Caldari Mission Running

Hi All,

I've just returned to EVE after about a year and I need to start grinding some missions to fund my PVP habit.

I'm currently training Command Ships V but I've been browsing the forums and it seems that the Nighthawk has fallen out of favour. Should I rather be skilling Battleships V for a CNR? Or maybe switch to a Tengu? Although I feel that the strat crusiers are a massive waste of SP.

Advice and a few fitting suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

I don't think they've changed anything with the command ships. The main reason they've fallen out of favor is that T3s essentially do the same thing, but with significantly less training time (and more cost, and more risk). If the training time isn't a factor, go for it!

I dont understand how strat cruisers have less training time? They have all the subsystems and the core space ship command skill to train...

It's a consideration of skills directly dedicated to that ship. The core skills should be on everyone's training plan if not trained already, apart from those you have Cruiser V, and the five subsystems, each of which is an extremely quick skill. Command ships on the other hand require Cruiser V, Battlecruiser V, Leadership V, Warfare link IV, and HACs IV. While all of the skills have other uses, they aren't nearly as universally applicable as electronics, engineering, shield operation, or any other core Vs you need for strat cruisers. Plus the Heavy Assault Ships skill already requires Engineering and Mechanic V.

Even not making exceptions, just to sit in the ships from a base character, the Nighthawk takes 120 days, while the Tengu takes a mere 61. The Tengu pilot will also have far less to train to competently fly his ship than the Nighthawk pilot, thanks to already having several core Vs.

Edit: Most people consider the subsystems being to V a requirement before even setting foot in a strategic cruiser, which bumps the total training time up to 91 days, 66 if you're willing to deal with just IVs and just not mention it too often.

Ok, so I'm 20 days away from Command Ships V. Which will be the only skill I need/want to fly a Nighthawk. My question then is should I (or do I need to) train to fly a Tengu? How much of a difference will it make to mission completion speed. The other thing we haven't discussed is that I'm also about 20 days away from Caldari Battleships V. I already have good skills in Cruise Missiles, etc. So I'm wanting advice on which of those 3 would be the best option (in this specific situation) for mission running.

nighthawk vs tengu boils down to 2 things:
- do you like drones?
- are you ok with flying a >1bil ship?

the CNR is an OK mission boat, wepecially when you do not want to shoot kinetic but tbh i would prefer a tengu any day.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I have flown the Nighthawk, CNR and tengu in L4's and the Nigthhawk does not cut the cake compared the the other 2. I really like the CNR but i will also pick the tengu any day.

Great, so Tengu it is.

Could you recommend a fitting?

I like the LSE fit because I prefer a little extra buffer. There are other fits that doesn't use it and they also seem to work fine.
